[citation][nom]beayn[/nom]This is because of Walmart's $499 desktop selling like hotcakes to anyone and everyone who thinks it's a great deal. Little do they know it comes with a discontinued single core Sempron CPU, discontinued 320gb hard drive, slow-ass DDR-667 memory modules and discontinued motherboard chipset. Oh, and don't forget it also comes with three 1gb memory modules, eliminating dual channel configuration.I can't build the same PC for my customers because of all the discontinued crap in them. I can build a faster one with higher capacities and higher quality parts but as soon as I throw in Windows, a monitor, speakers, keyboard & mouse, the price jumps too much above $499 and whoever I'm selling it to still thinks Walmart is the better deal.I think the OEMs get Windows for like $30 or something? That's where the biggest hit is for the little guy like me.So yeah, thank Walmart for late mainstream acceptance of new hardware.[/citation]
Yeah, I remember laughing at those who thought that a really cheap computer is such an AWESOME deal! You get what you pay for...
It's funny though when my grandmother's e-machine motherboard went and it was to cost her $110 bucks for another one (they send me the motherboard). This was 2 years ago with the original DDR 667 architecture. Motherboard replacement was almost cost of the whole machine itself! I built her her next computer fyi
