My house just had a black-out and I restarted my power.
My white Verizon wall box just started beeping (I think its because the white box is telling me that I need to replace the battery):

For some reason, my router can't connect to the internet:

1. Do I need to replace the battery in the Verizon white box first to get my internet back online? https://ibb.co/98Nctqk

2. I thought the Verizon white box was for phone landline use in case of a black-out emergency. Can I connect to the internet without the Verizon white box powered on?

3. What is the function of this Verizon white box? Why do I need both the Verizon white box AND my router ON at the same time to connect to my FIOS internet?

4. Can the Verizon white box function with a "hard-wire power connection" instead of the internal/replaceable battery?

That "white box" is the optical network termination (ONT). You can see the fiber hanging below the unit in your picture (yellow loop on left).
Those units are all different, so I can't answer for sure about the requirement for a battery.
I would start by contacting FIOS, that is their equipment.
