Richard Garfield, Ph. D.
Legendary Creature - Human Designer, 3UU, 2/2 (Unhinged, Rare)
You may play cards as though they were other Magic cards of your choice
with the same mana cost. (Mana cost includes color. ) You can't choose
the same card twice

Please correct me where I'm wrong.

It's mental magic. Duh.

I *may* play spells mentally, but I don't *have* to. This means I can
play them normally, including duplicates.

The "can't choose the same card twice" clause only lasts for the
duration of the permanent. Bouncing him would reset this uniqueness
test, allowing me to replay a mental spell next time he was in play.

Thank you.

Jon

Yep.

Right. If you're not playing them as another card, you're not choosing, so
you CAN play the same card multiple times "as itself", plus you can choose
it once for another card played "as it".

Right. If he leaves play and comes back (without phasing out and in again),
he's a brand-new Richard Garfield, fresh from the diploma mill, and doesn't
remember what choices you have made earlier for his clone.

If he phases out and back in again, which is ENTIRELY possible for this card,
he'll remember previous choices once he's back in play.

That's correct (and covered in the Unhinged FAQ at
<http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/faq/unhinged>).

That sounds reasonable to me.

What if you have more than one Garfield in play? Can you choose every
card once for each Garfield?

I don't see why not, BUT you have to mentally keep track of which Garfield
has chosen which card(s), so that if one leaves play you still know which
ones the other one is forbidding. No taking notes on paper, that's not cricket.

Of course, remember he IS legendary, so you'll need a Mirror Gallery
or something to play the second one without killing them both.

I knew someone was gonna say that but I forgot the name of the card
(Mirror Gallery) so I didn't mention it.
