I've given up for the moment as the points seem to have taken a nosedive so I don't see any reason for burning up the electricity, when Stanford stop being so stingy then I'll power things up again.
The problem is they are only thinking like scientists and are ignoring that their 'supercomputer' has feelings and is donating its time/money to their cause. I left a little rant over on the official forums about the points in general (in a thread about bigadv requirements changing): https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25411&start=45#p253896
In short for the GPUs, they still need core 15 to close out projects that were already started (or to continue from the results of previous projects). So those low PPD projects are doing just as valuable science as core 17 projects, but they decided not to adjust the points accordingly to show that they are valued. I think because their hands have been bitten in the past when they changed points they are scared to change them under any circumstances. I'll admit though that it isn't easy, but maintaining status quo isn't working well in this case.
But, on the bright side a little ways into the new year new stuff should start happening, hopefully good stuff.
Stanford needs to create a new incentive system to further encourage folders. Are we not part of the largest supercomputer in the world currently? Please tell me otherwise!
Yep, it's the 8018's. One system has recovered and is doing great. But my 660ti is still sucking on the 8018's. Hope she recovers soon. My points are half what they should be.
I've had nothing but 8018 for almost 3 weeks. Then finally a couple 8900 the last 2 days on one card. the other 2 are still suffering.
Hopefully I've completed most of them at this point and we can move on to better PPD units.
I will be powering down for New Year's. Don't like to leave the computer running for extended periods when I have no internet access to keep an eye on it.
I will be doing a partial shut down for two weeks.
I will leave he 2 low power units running while I am away. So I will still be able to contribute 30=50,000 PPD depending on work units received.
Taking the daughter and three grandkids to Jekyll Island Georgia starting New Years day.
Happy New Year all, hopefully everyone had a great holiday.
Just out of curiosity, how much time do you all get over the Christmas/ New Years period? In NZ, this is our holiday time, most companies are closed for a week. Only retail and services continue.
Happy New Years 2014!
May it be a year filled with many blessings.
I had a weird work schedule the past two weeks
I worked Monday and Friday Christmas week (half day Monday and full day Friday)
I have weekends off normally
Worked full day Monday and half day New Years Eve
full days thursday and friday
I work for a Hewlett Packard Channel Partner/Reseller
started off as a Printer Tech and then PC Tech and then promoted to front office as an Inside Sales/Technical Consultant/Managed Print Admin
Most of my accounts are higher ed Universities and Colleges so been quiet for the most part during the holidays
Happy New Year everyone!
On a less positive note, the GPU servers are down. I checked the forums over there and they are aware and working on it. However due to the holiday they have a reduced staff. Vijay mentioned a backup GPU server that is coming soon to prevent this from happening again, so that is something positive to end on.
Looks like anything uploaded between around 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM yesterday is gone... POOF!
I don't know, maybe the points are there. Maybe I was too quick to judge. It's just that my points and the whole teams points are down for yesterday. Just seamed a bit suspicious.
Happy New Year all, hopefully everyone had a great holiday.

Belated happy New Year folks, and congratulations on hitting 37th place.
In Denmark, most people get at least half a day off the 24th (because the main Christmas celebration is on Christmas Eve), and both the 25th and 26th are mandatory holidays. So is January 1st. Some businesses do close down between Christmas and New Year's, but that varies a lot. Probably more that closed down this year because there was a weekend in there anyway.
If you are near a MicroCenter you might be able to find a GTX 580 in that range. Otherwise you are looking at NVidia 650-660 or AMD 7770-7870 or lower R9s. You looking for gaming or mostly folding?
