Look, I'm not a n00b in this genre or anything. These games are my absolute favorite type of game. I've beaten D1, D2, Hellgate, Torchlight, Titan Quest, and have been in the Path of Exile beta for months.

This game is not as good as it should be. They took a lot of the elements that made its predecessor great and stripped them. Character customization is almost non-existent. Inevitably there are not going to be "builds" anymore and there will be obvious best combinations of skills to take at all times. Diablo 2 made you think about your character, plan them out, and then try again if you didn't do well. Path of Exile not only expounded on the customization but also adds a system for respec. So to say that I didn't play the original Diablos and didn't know what to expect is ridiculous. Blizzard dumbing it down is the problem. The achievements are a neat touch, but really is that 12 years of progress? The ideas they have in game have already been done by other companies (thank Flagship that all your loot is just yours), so what exactly are you getting other than the story? I could read books if I wanted that...

The graphics are just OK. It runs on everything: that's awesome. It looks like crap compared to Path of Exile and Torchlight 2: that sucks. Path of Exile will be free to play. Torchlight 2 is only 19.99 (and you'll probably be able to Steam sale it for much less). For 60 dollars and all that development time I expected something that looked better and was more polished. I also thought that post-beta there would be better graphics options (I was wrong).

Don't tell me lag isn't a problem either. It's ridiculous that I need a continuous connection to bnet in order to play. The fact that it messes with my performance is unacceptable. Hardcore mode is hard enough without having to be concerned about lag spikes (and yes, this was a concern in Diablo 2 but it's been 12 years and I play games all the time that do not have these lag issues).

I expected steps forward, not back. I feel bad for people that took a day off work to play and totally got screwed. You would think that Blizz had learned lessons from all their other launches (but they haven't). I really want it to be a great game. I want to play it more than I played Diablo 2 (which was a ton). It's sad that I'm actually looking forward to Path of Exile and Torchlight 2 and am questioning how much time I'll actually spend replaying this one....

Cost of the game put me off, how they can charge more than £20 for what is not much more than a browser game is beyond me.

It's simplistic point and click and the features are quite fringe feeling.

I'd of paid for a D2 type game with a graphical/mechanic update however.

[citation][nom]tomrippity02[/nom]Mmmm what? Me no speaky your language.Haha. If even one of your sentences did not include a misspelled word or just poor grammar in general, I might take your comment more seriously. People are "flocking" to the game, because blizzard has a track record of releasing entertaining products. If it were a new company, producing their first game, they wouldn't have any where near as much attention as they do.[/citation]

Only one obvious mistake was "eversince" and you insulted my opinion based on that? Shows how insightful you are my friend.

oh, and further to my comment, if it's only a step up from a browser class game, why would i need to be tethered to the internet to play it.

Instead of having a simplistic game running on a portable device (laptop + train/crap hotel for example.

Were it not for the diablo/blizzard fans, this game could be flop of the century.

Man o man, I've just read the story of the entire game.

What a load of tosh. It's almost as pathetic as the Retcon, Burning Crusade. (Also I've had a go on pandas beta, uninstalled it after 30 minutes, its a beyond a joke now)

They must've thought they'd be able to make a better game on the cheap than the original Diablo 2 crew.

For now, I'll treat blizzard as I treat EA.

Do not touch with a barge pole.

[citation][nom]Nightsilver[/nom]BREAKING NEWS: TWO DAY OLD GAME HAS BUGS. MORE AT 11.[/citation]
A new game should have bugs, but the bugs should not be this obvious.

Equipping a warrior with a shield and you get kicked off the server? This couldn't be discovered during beta? What was that incredibly long beta for anyway of a bug like this got through to live?

It's not the fact there are bugs that's being ridiculed, it's the fact of how idiotic the bugs are, as well as the sheer number of them, that are being ridiculed.

[citation][nom]tomrippity02[/nom]I think for a lot of people, its going to be hard to top the experience they remember from D2. D3 is a great game, but its hard to overcome expectations and its hard for Blizzard to recreate and improve on experiences people had 12 years ago, maybe when they were young teenagers or younger. People experience things differently at different ages... this game would have been FAR more interesting if I were only 16, but I am 28 now and its harder to impress me. That being said, it was 60 dollars well spent, IMHO.[/citation]

I also think DNF were USD$60 well spent on my side.

Cheers!

[citation][nom]tomrippity02[/nom]They didn't do anything to the consumer. They didn't make anyone purchase the game and they have explained in depth their thought processes on requiring an internet connection. You can say what you want about them not being the same company they use to be, but they have had 2 hugely successful product launches in 2 years and they will continue to have more, because even though you love to complain, you know you love to play their games as well. Your just another cry baby gamer who didn't get what he wanted right when he wanted it so you throw a tantrum.[/citation]

And they destroyed their main argument with why there was an always online requirement for single player only online when they announced that you could play outside your region but drops you recieved could not be placed on the RMAH. If they can assure those drops could not be placed on the RMAH, they can easily make sure offline drops can't be placed on the RMAH either.

And yes, they have had 2 successful launches in 2 years, this with D3 and SC2. But you gloss over the fact that SC2 has it's own issues with the map store which discourages people from making their own maps since Acitvision Blizzard can then take those maps and sell them. It certainly hasn't been universally embraced like the original SC was.

You also ignore the absolute disaster Cataclysm was, so while yes, they may have had 2 successful launches in 2 years, they have had one disastrous release in the past year and a half.

The fact is since Vivendi placed Kotick in charge of Acitvision Blizzard (and sorry to disappoint you all who disagree with it, but a CEO of a company that owns another company does indeed have say so over the company they own), Blizzard has not had a huge, universally accepted hit the way pre-merger Blizz always had. It is obvious from little things like always online play, the RMAH, the cash store, etc that Kotick has made his unfortunate mark on Blizzard.

Ah... The obligatory Wildkitten post with the conclusive Kotick rant to end it.

First of all you are assuming something based on the flawed logic you create inside of your head.

Using the RMAH not being available when you play outside the region your Battle.Net account is registered to as an example of how they have lied about single player is stretching. The justification for the two are separate.

1. RMAH being excluded when playing outside of your registered territory is due to RMAH using different currencies to function depending on the region. USA = Dollars; Europe = Euro's; Asia = Probably Yen or Korean Won. Perhaps the Chinese Yuan but there is a whole other issue with the valuation of the Chinese currency that I would suspect Blizzard would be very hesitant to base a virtual economy on.

2. Blizzard made online a requirement for single player to protect game sales and prevent hacking; everything that has been said contrary to this is wrong.

Every argument you make is based on opinion not fact. You just don't like Blizzard so you find any straw you can grasp as proof the house is crumbling. You gloss over reality in favor of your own prefabricated one because you are blinded by your hatred for Bobby Kotick.

You reference declining subs. as validation to why cataclysm was a disaster but is not justification for your opinion. In fact cataclysm wasn't a disaster but that Blizzard is a victim of their own success. They grew the beast that was Wold of Warcraft from nothing and now the appetite of the player base is more then what they can produce. They suffer from not being able to roll out end game content at a pace that keeps people interested for more then 3-4 month and they suffer for it. In your eyes this lead to cataclysm being deemed a disastrous expansion.

Please tell me what made it a disastrous expansion excluding the gaps between content, (BOT/BWD to Firelands to Dragon Soul)

You cannot seriously make a case without basing it off of your own opinion. You have never ever accepted that WoW is a 8 year old game and the fan base's (that it was designed to appeal to) interest in it is waning. Over time, no matter what they do, those people will never go back to it because they are tired of the genre.

For most people I know, the reasons for no longer playing wow are generally the same. The people who they played with during they glory days no longer play. They don't have the same frenzied interest to compel them to play and after 5-7 years of playing the game they grow tired of the perpetual loot system the game depends on to drive interest.

In the end, Was cataclysm really that bad? No.

Did end game content linger and suffer? Yes.

Has WoW hit peak subscriptions and will now slowly die like everything that has ever came before it since the beginning of time? Yes.

Have you actually played Diablo 3's full campaign? Probably Not.

Can you ever post anything that does not end in a Bobby Kotick is the devil and is destroying Blizzard? No.

And the obligatory Jprobes post that ignores what people have said.

For the record, I do not hate Blizzard. In fact I LOVE Blizzard. What I hate is what is being done to them by Bobby Kotick. Since you don't like my "rants" against him, then explain why he is so good in your opinion for gaming since most gamers can't stand him.

You see, you seem to ignore one point. They told us we had to have online only play even for single player so that the integrity of the RMAH could be preserved. You yourself even confirm this with your prevent hacking statement. Two problems with this. If they can prevent items for cross region showing up on the RMAH, then they could prevent offline single player items from being placed on the RMAH. And if someone wants to hack their offline single player game, so what. In what way does that affect you or me or anyone else? What is your need to control how someone else plays their game?

Explain how this online only requirment protects game sales. I didn't see D1 or D2 game sales being hurt because they could be played offline. They did however cost themselves quite a number of sales by requiring online only play for single player. I myself have zero interest in multiplayer Diablo and I will not buy a single player game that requires me to be online for just the reasons we have seen the past couple of days.

And you want to know what made Cataclysm a disaster? Let's see, how about delivering less than half the content they promised during beta? How about not resolving storylines such as the Andorhal one for one example. How about cutting the Abyssal Maw raid with the excuse that Neptulon's storyline was done when the last we saw of Neptulon he was being whisked away by Ozumat at the end of the Throne of Tides dungeon. Sorry, how is someone being kidnapped a resolution to a storyline? And if they thought it was a resolution, why was Abyssal Maw even planned for in the first place to resolve it?

There is also the matter that subs dropped EVERY quarter in the year after it was released even as the little new content was coming out. In fact, even though they introduced the Annual Pass in Q4 of 2011, the same quarter as the climatic raid, they still lost subscribers.

And no, the fan base's interest isn't waning. Plenty of fans, such as myself crave Warcraft content. The problem is WoW doesn't really give us Warcraft content. The comics had to be done to resolve storylines they promised to show in game and didn't get around to. Things would happen in the novels and just appear in game without any explanation. Because fans got tired of having to go to muyltiple sources, they just left. The fact the comics and magazine had to be cancelled to pathetically low sales, as well as the low sales of recent novels and other outside merchandise, shows the main fan base is leaving. But doesn't mean they wanted to leave, merely they felt there was no place for them.

And yes, I will continue to point the finger at Bobby Kotick. Blizzard was the best gaming development house prior to Vivendi forcing a merger on them because they increased the choices for gamers. Since he took over, it has been decreasing choices. The Real ID fiasco's, the intention of making some content in WoW be premium only (which would have been a first in a sub based game), the SC2 map store fiasco, the D3 problems all come from the Kotick style of game development, not the Blizzard style.

Stop being Blizzard apologists. A problem like this after a game has been in development for twelve years, a bug that's THIS EASY TO TRIGGER is utterly unacceptable.

Even after all the crap this launch has put players through, it's still "please sir, can I have some more" from you people.

Actually this bug was reported to Blizzard during the closed beta's. The fact that it got into a completed game is just stupid. Especially after Blizzard has known of it's existance. Their current 'official' solution is "The current workout is to not give the Templar your shield".

[citation][nom]pierogi210[/nom]PPL, because the game came out 12 years later, doesn't mean, they have been working for 12 years on this game.[/citation]

They certainly haven't been programming it for 12 years. At the very best, they started working on story lines and conceptualization in 2000, maybe 2003 though.

I get sick of hearing people complain about graphics. The game was not made to be beautiful. The game play itself is what matters, and I think they did a great job. I have really been enjoying playing with my friends. On the harder modes, the teamwork required is exceptionally well thought out and the way classes work together is indicative of how great Blizzard can be when they take their time and don't give in to the pressure of release dates being announced.

I hear ya. If ppl took the time to research on what the devs been saying about the game, there is nothing new. They explain on what the differences are and why they made them that way. Whatever they did, they did it for a reason. There are things i like about the game and there are a few things i don't. Anyways, enjoy your game and i'll do the same.

You're right, it's not Duke Nukem Forever, it ran out of the box and people weren't waiting days to play it because the BS DRM servers kept crashing.

This is what happens to every single server based game in the first few days. If you are spazzing out then you are clueless and a noob. Taking off work to play a game on launch day and expecting a full day or smooth experience is idiocy, never happens.

The game is awesome as hell and as the usual bugs get ironed out, it will only get better.

waaaaaaaaaaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaaaa, now don't cry babies just because of some bugs. How about this, while you are waiting to play D3 -- go outside, get some fresh air, join the human race for a bit. GET A FREAKING LIFE!!!! There HAS to be more in this world to cry about then this!! I know about gaming, and complex systems and how they can and will bust from time-to-time. I know Blizzard is a good company and D3 is a good game. I'm just waiting it out and will reap the benefits later.

I normally don't buy blizzard games, because their development model is terrible. WoW, WC3 and SC2 are all extremely basic, simplistic and unoriginal games, designed to be easy to play and have really low system requirements. But i did like the original diablo so figured id buy it.

Graphics are terrible (though expected from blizzard), voice acting and story are way below standard almost painful to listen to, games is simplistic, repetitive and often boring even on harder difficulties. On top of that, always online drm nonsense is bad enough, but the "lagging" and warping in SINGLEPLAYER is unacceptable.

But hey, at least it runs on max setting on my laptop lolol.

Never again, blizzard, never again.
