OK, I had this post in the DVD/CD Writers section but no response so I'll try here.

I want to burn a old game - Rogue Spear, before it fails as it is scratched but still OK.

If you want to burn a game without using the copy CD option, what type of burning method should you use - there's at least four different burn methods eg, multi session, disc at once, etc. (Rogue Spear contains video, music and data)

What other custom settings/options would you use?

Thanks,

I would use alchohol120% and try to make the CD image first
test out the image if it can install the game alright
then burn it

Download daemon tools. Make an image of the cd using one of the before mentioned programs and test it out in clone cd. Then burn the image using nero or any program of your choosing.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

One other question - do you know the type of game burn format that game producers use?

There must be a name for it.

Might be a industry secret so that it makes game burning more difficult.

Ive tried burning alot of games(for back up purpouses only)
and they would burn ok, install ok, but would always ask for the play disc when trying to burn. I know game makers want to prevent pirating but i should not have to go out and buy another copy if mine gets damaged.Ive tried clone cd and ALC 120 but still asks for play disc when trying to play.

game producers dont "burn" games....

the mechine they use works kind of like those old fashion newspaper printers
they "plate" the CD information first then 'print out' an exact lyer of replicated data
then the layer of data get painted with protection layer and proccess through other work over
finally it becomes the CD we see on the market
this type of CD copying is expensive because of the professional work needed
though, each CD can be made fast for mass production, also not considering
the mechine being used in the process, the unit cost is actually cheaper than
burning with typical CD-R used for PC
