New power supply should help alot your system has the newer processor Im running the 920 and im guessing you have 2 four prong plugs by your processor and only one has power so your not really getting full power to it . When I bought mine I came home with a bigger ps I have a 700w might be why I havent had some of the errors others have had. Any matx motherboard should fit. I like the Asus rampage gene II the best and the Evga one isnt bad either they seem to have the most options and are user friendly as far as overclocking. If you change go for the one that has the options your looking for.

The 6801-01 already has a 750 W power supply. I don't think it is the amount of power it is supplying, I just think there is an incompatibility or other problem with it. I even read about the same freezing at the logo with a certain Corsair supply. I'm just guessing the ones they put in here don't work well with Windows 7. It didn't freeze loading up Vista when I first got it. I have gone through all the BSOD crash dump files after sleep, and it appears it is a different problem every time, but they all involve some time of memory access, or disk access error. That combined with the bootup fix of turning it off for a bit leads me to believe that the power supply isn't kicking in right or fast enough in both instances.
If you're having problems with freezing and crash dumps, you may want to do a diagnostic on the Seagate drive that came with the system cause the drive may be going bad and be about ready to die.

Wow nice is that the stock ps if it is nice to see they are picking up on there parts. Guess you will need to wait for Renegades responce he's much better at finding solutions to those kinda problems. He may have already posted something your problems.
I have done a couple of quick diagnostics on the drive and it has come out fine. The SMART info on it seems fine too. Like I said, it doesn't freeze during use, only freezes on the windows logo on a restart or warm reboot, and occasionally coming out of sleep (a very common problem with vista/7). The main possibilities are the power supply, graphics card (driver), and the hard drive. In any case, I can avoid it completely by going into hibernate instead and I never restart the computer too, just would like to figure it out because I like to tinker.

I will have to check on the intel matrix storage manager. I know the NVidia drivers were causing issues earlier, but I have a new beta one installed and I have been able to restart 3 times with it fine and there isn't any locking up, but I will have to test it more to see. I have been fine for a few times before too. I really doubt it is a virus or malicious software. I just simply have never had any, and take real care to not ever get them.
So far I have installed 4 different display drivers, updated the bios, turned off all sleep settings in bios, switched around the ram, or removed sticks, tested the hard drive, tried to boot from a different hard drive with Windows 7 (from my old desktop), tested the ram, and switched SATA ports around as well as others I can't think off the top of my head. The only things I can think it could possibly be now is just waiting on a good set of Nvidia drivers, the power supply, or a bad motherboard. I would rather exhaust all other alternatives before I get a new one. It is still under warranty though, so I could get a free replacement mobo. I might try taking out a power supply from another computer and seeing if that solves the issue.
We had a Commodore 64 with a tape drive growing up, and then a Compaq 486 33 Mhz machine around 90'. Used gopher servers, and had a website with fortunecities and tripod in the early 90s
If you haven't already done so, try installing a better heat sink on the North Bridge chipset to lower the temp on it as much as possible.
Have you tried looking over the event logs to see if anything stands out for the times that you have had these problems as this may provide a clue as to what is happening?

The temps are really low all around from what I have checked, and there are no problems under load. It literally only BSOD on wake from sleep, and then it freezes on disk.sys on the windows logo from a warm reboot. I installed the windows debugging tools and read all the crash dump files from the BSOD. When I get home I will copy the reports and paste them here to see.

I honestly don't know, but usually motherboard manufacturers know about CPU releases well before the general public as they need to be able to release support updates if and when needed so as to support new features, even if it's more cores.
My guess here is the determining factor would be if it uses the X58 or the X55 chipset.
If it uses the X58 chipset, then you may be able to use it in this system. Whether the extra cores will work or not remains to be seen. But chances are, there will be another update down the road.

Thanks. Yes it's for the X58, but it does require a BIOS mod on older x58 chipsets to work. The warranty on my fx is expired and the first two dimm slots are dead, leaving me with only being able to use dual channel and and fill up the back 4 slots. Think I'm just going to buy a new MSI X58M motherboard and slap in.

I have a question for those of you with the FX6800-01e and the Radeon HD 4850 1 GB. Which version of the ATI driver are you using? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I've been having a lot of video card driver problems. I've been using the "driver only" installs because the install packages that include the full Catalyst Control Center seem to cause even more problems.
That's odd. I have Win7 64-bit but I'm using a 250GB drive and have removed the original 750GB drive to be used for other things. My problem was resolved by installing a 700W PS. My problem wasn't the typical BSoD. I received no error warnings or messages, just a garbled screen with vertical lines. This screen had no legible text, just a few different colors throughout the pixels.
Well hopefully that hotfix resolves everyone else's issues.

This mode of operation will cause instability of the video card crashing (no matter which version of Win OS is being used, although Vista seems to be more problematic when using the 64-bit edition). It doesn't matter which version of ATI drivers are being used. It doesn't matter which version of BIOS is being used.
The actual event seems to be a crashing of display drivers stopped ( amdkmdap ) responding and was unable to be recovered. Win OS then fails. The only response is to Hard Reset the computer by depressing the power button for over 5 seconds in duration, or by removing physical power to the chassis.
If you run BIOS "Smart Fan" as [ Enabled ], this same series of events occur much less frequently (hours, days or weeks apart), where running as [ Disabled ] will cause crashes typically within 10-15 minutes.

Root cause of this issue is the under sizing of the power supply, based upon the installed 450 watt unit being used in either the Gateway shipped system, or the refurbished units ( I have a 2-day old refurbished unit, built in Jan-2009 ). I have a FX6800-01e, with the 1GB video card from ATI Radeon HD 4850 Series.
Resolutions
Don't run as Disabled, and if running enabled, try to limit the environmental temperatures that the system is exposed to, along with the CPU demand, as when the CPU/SYSTEM gets hot, the fans increase their speed/RPMs and demand more power from the power supply. Depending upon this event duration, the Video card instability can occur, which will cause the system to crash.
The long term resolution is the replacement of the power supply with one from a reputable vendor, rated at least between 650 watts and 750 watts (I would recommend going 750+ watts, depending upon what additional devices you will be installing (there are three additional hard drive bays, along with an additional optical drive bay).
When reading the other threads which involve the Gateway FX6800 series machines, the common solution was to replace the power supply, and once done, the frequency of problems have subsided.

The other thing I have been recommending for this system is Liquid cooling
cause this system has a very poor air flow design for keeping the system cool.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I figured I should add a few more details. I currently don't get the driver stopped responding lockups. I only would get those when I did the full Catalyst Control Center installs. If I install the ATI device driver only then the driver stopped responding issue goes away. My main video problem is portions of the screen getting replaced with solid black squares. For example, while watching a video on YouTube there is a box on the right-hand side called "Related Videos" with a vertical scrollbar. If I scroll through the list it will randomly just change to a black box. If I minimize and then maximize my browser (Firefox 3.6.2) then the list of videos gets repainted correctly. However, it's not just limited to Firefox. I get the same issue in a bunch of native Windows applications such as Device Manager or the update driver window.
While trying different versions of the driver I found some of the older versions (9.XX) ones were less prone to the black box issue, but they would frequently cause the taskbar to flicker or cause the title bar in certain windows to turn pink. So far the one failsafe solution I have found is to turn off Aero Glass. Yesterday I uninstalled 10.2, ran Driver Sweeper, and then installed 10.3 which was just released. It didn't make a difference.
Tonight as a test I'll leave the case open, unplug the rear case fan, and unplug any unnecessary external devices. Then I'll see if the black boxes happen any less frequently with the current draw being lower on the PSU. I'll report back tomorrow.

With the Catalyst Control center, if you play with and Unlock the ATI Overdrive, you could very well cause lockups to your system with an under rated power supply.
