I have an MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB GAMING X and i've only had it for about 2 months, i've recently noticed that it clocks itself when i am in game to 1980Mhz instead of the 1605Mhz base core clock speed, i have msi afterburner but haven't touched any of the overclock settings due to the temperatures the card was getting at load (would get into the mid 80s). How do i stop the card clocking so high and could this be the reason for the high temperatures?

Solution
Hey there,

That's completely normal. That's the GPU boost feature, that bumps the clockspeed up for better performance when the thermals allow. Nothing to worry about at all.

You definitely, don't want to disable the boost or downclock.

When you say high temps, what do you mean? Those cards are designed to operate at 65-85c without any issue and for sustained periods of gaming. Those temps would be normal too.

ah okay, it generally peaks around 83/84 but sustains high 70s or about 81. It seems silly to me i would much prefer it just ran at the advertised speeds with lower temperatures, if i wanted to overclock it i would do it myself. Thanks anyway
