Exactly, that was point =)

Would I buy a 480 over a 5870, NO, why? Because it not winter anymore and I do not need more heat in my room =), plus its cheaper..As far as the efficiency goes I can care less...

But really the 480 should drop in price , 449$ is a sweet spot considering the 470@ 349$.

We all would like sh*t cheaper, thats not the way things always work. One advantage the fastest gpu in the world has is a bigger memory buffer. For extreme resolutions and AA scenarios it beat 5870 1gb . Thats one of the reasons why the new 2gb cards (5870) are also priced at 500 dollars. Thats not a sweetspot, lol :)

Except then it would be in direct price competition with the 5870 which it is superior to most of the time in most situations.

Along with having low numbers in stalk and a reliable base who will buy the cards for months to come, along with i doubt they will be pushing out a ton of these cards but more working to a refresh that isn't a semi crippled chip, with pretty much demand being there and stock being low they can keep the prices as is.

449.99$ would be the sweet spot but we all know that is an unreaslistic price considering what NV charges normally for their cards.

Look at the 295, it is still @ 529.99$ in most places and I don't see that price going down anytime soon.

Well you have to factor in cost of making the card into the price of the card and then adjust the profit margin accord to stock and demand for the product.

The stock is likely to stay low throughout the sale

And we already know that the likely cost of producing the card is high.

The demand is there so they can keep the card at a high price for a relatively long time one would assume.

Demand for the 295?

I don't think NV really cares much about demand compared to AMD, when the 5870 was relesased the demand for the 295 plummeted and yet NV never even considered lowering the price. Some companies can care less what the consumer has to pay to get inferior hardware.

btw the 5850 and 5870 MSRP are 259$ and 379$. At least, prices should get near MSRP when Fermi is released. At launch , 5850 were available for 259$! Now, after 8 months, its price is higher! Dam marketing :fou:

Its the other way around buddy, the only way AMD would even consider lowering the price on the 5850/5870 is by having NV either lower their current price or equaling what AMD offers and that is not going to happen.

The 470 is priced at 350.00$ which is basically cheaper than a reference 5850, so the only way AMD would consider a price cut would be to have NV lower that price to 300.00$

The 480 is priced at 499.99$ which is more expensive than the 5870 but its also faster, so NV would have to lower that price to about 449.99$

Basically ATI is flicking off nVidia with their pricing. That, and the fact that ATI needs to make some money. Assuming, because of ATI's smaller mfcturing cost, that ATI is making bigger margins, they can afford to cut prices nicely.

To this date I still do not unsderstand how AMD die hard fans want better prices, the prices are lower than expected considering the performance you get.

AMD has better offerings than NV at a cheaper price yet they still complain...

I was not refering to you shadow 😉 , I just stumble upon these posts every now n then and IMO its non-sense. Yes better prices would be nice but AMD has to make a buck as well, and the fact that you don't see NV fans complaining about NV's prices so that makes it even worse.

AMD pwns NV right now when it comes to what you pay vs. what you get, so if an AMD users wants better pricing, my advice would be to stop with the nonsense, get a job/raise/panhandle do whatever it takes but don't complain 😀

lol Its expenisive compared to past gen where the 4870 was 299 and the 4850 was 199$
Who doesnt want money? Even super rich Bill Gates wants more

Eh, we don't know the exact number, nVidia just said there would be plenty of supply, what that means exactly... *shrug*

10,000 was just an estimate.

Fudzilla has a story about a new model the gtx 460 that will be available. June 1'st Unknown specs but a 'competitor to the 5850'. http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/18390/1/
This 10,000 # is just speculation.
How about 5970's. How many are there of those ? Rhetorical :)

Thats is 2,500$ alone in cards/board

PSU is going to be another 350.00$

😱 way too much money for the average joe...

Such System with Quad 480 would be Perfect/Insane for Folding, Just Imagine the score ! 😱

Well at launch it was hard to find 5970s, I had to be nice on forums to get my hands on one, but now it is much better, not as good as other cards but still good quantity's.

Wtf? How is "Out Of Stock" at every available retailer "good quantity's"?

But yeah, I don't know how you could dissipate the heat of four GTX 480's without cooking everything else in the case.... so that'd be interesting to see.
