Cover story on this months OXM is HL2. So what do you all think HL2 is going
to be like on the Xbox? Doom 3 seems to have come out great, but I just
wonder what is going to have to be changed for HL2 to run on the Xbox. One
thing for sure, Steam is not going to be an issue which is going to help the
game a lot right from the start. JLC

I'm skeptical. I feel its just not going to look the same. I think Doom
3 does a better job of hiding this because its always dark.

Well Half Life 2 actually has some gameplay so hopefully it will be
better than Doom 3 even with graphics reduced.

I expect the xbox port to be inferior to the PC version in just about
every respect but to still be a pretty good port.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear that Valve is adding any new content
or online play so there's little incentive for those with the PC
version to have much interest in the port.

Hmm, I wonder if there's any chance that the expansion pack could be
included in the xbox version?

I don't know why Valve just didn't hold the game back and retool the
engine for an xbox 360 launch. They probably could have added some
nice eye candy and since the xbox reportedly supports at least 720p,
the whole package could really have wowed a lot of people.

I am "very" skeptical.
I don't under why they just don't wait until the XBox 2 is released.
You hit the nail on the head with Doom 3.
They are not goint to have the luxury of dark corridors and fog to hide the
graphics in HL2.
I am really enjoying D3 on the XBox but IMHO the more I play the game the
more I realize it's not even comparable to the PC version.

I totally agree, theres no need for them to make it for the xbox, part of
the fun of half life 2 is the realism, if they hold off for a few more
months they will be able to release it for next gen console without
comprimising ANYTHING. Doom 3 imo looked no better than riddick which for
the xbox is probably still the best looking game on it, and that is purely
because its a very dark game, much like doom, with a lot of focus on the
lighting or lack of. Plus i personally dont think theres a market for half
life 2 on an inferirior console, the xbox has so many of this type of
game,
releasing hl2 will not cause the wow factor of the original pc version, so
why do it?.

emphasis added as I feel the same way about Doom3 for xbox. its trite "BOO"
scare tactics were played out by the time the sequels to Nightmare on Elm
Street and Friday the 13th hit. I'm so underwhelmed with the game I'm
already thinking of trading it, having only gotten as far as the first
"boss"...stumbling around in dark corridors with a flashlight, waiting for
the next monster closet to open behind me is boring me to tears...

That can't wait around, as they have another 7-year trek to Half-life 3.
