Does anyone have any idea what the max or border line temperture that the 800 thunderbird can heat up to and stay. And what would be a temperture that would be on the threshold of danger. thanks Bruce

Assuming that you have a Socket A and not a Slot-A processor I have heard that the chip is rated to 90 deg. C but it is not going to be stable at that temp. My T-Bird ic OC'd to 1GHz and runs in the mid 40's to just under 50. It will not stay stable over high 50's to 60's.

I ahd a fan go bad and in the mean time I put a thermaltake on. It looks like a cage. It is susposed to run your the cpu cooler. It acutally is running 10 to 12 f higher. I found out that this fan is no AMD Approved. So I will be relacing it soon. The other fan kept me in the 46 to 50 c range. This is a socket type 800 and even a a idle with the othe fan I ran at 48 C. What type of fan are you using ? It seems to keep your rather cool. Bruce

Bruce, if you want your Thunderbird to run cooler, buy the recommended (Tom's Hardware Guide) Socket A CPU Fan - FOP32-1 and install with Arctic Thermal Silver paste, and you'll notice your processor will run cooler. I have a 1 GHZ Tbird installed in an ASUS A7V, that would hit over 50 degrees centigrade frequently, and as I speak now, the CPU is at 41(ASUSPROBE). You can pick the FOP32-1 up on the net for under 20. I got mine with the arctic thermal silver paste for 21.95. I think in the long run it will be a wise investment..Good Luck...
