Question Help with MSI motherboard microphone jack

I have an MSI MPG Z390 motherboard and for some reason mic audio won't work. When i plug in the mic, I get tons of static and interference. I've tried switching headphones and plugging them into my front panel jack but no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it has something to do with a random piece of software I installed as these issues started happily before I got a new mobo.
