Hi, im new to all this oc and i like to learn some tips, if ppl will give there time and opion be awsome. Right now my system specs are.

x2 3800-2.5ghz
Mb- A8N-SLI deluxe
Ram- 1gig ddr 400 kingston hyper Dc
Video-2-egate 7600gs in sli mode

the main question is what should i have the volt for the cpu set at and how high can the 3800 be clocked at for a stable system. I ran 3dmark 06 and on the cp test i didnt even get 1 fps why is this? do i need to up cpu volts? Any help would be awsome. Thanks in advance to those that help me.

I have the same setup as you.i was able to push mine to 2.8ghz could run memtest and superpi but for some reason it failed on 3dmark so i went back to 2.6 wich is the best speed

fsb 260
multi 10
vcore 1.5
mem volt 2.65
htt x3

hope that helps..

if u need help jaquesdp@lan2wan.co.za

Well, 2.5GHz is not bad as is. Can you go higher, probably yes but if you want a stable system not much over 2.6 or 2.7GHz.
The effectiveness of your CPU/System cooling will factor into how fast you OC and how high you raise the VCC. I personally would stop at or short of 1.5v VCC. As for testing for stability I personally think Prime95 running on both cores (SML FFT and Blended) is the best way to tell. I’ve read an OC test from Anandtech on the X2 +3800 that they had a problem running 3D Mark 05 after a certain point while OCing. Sounds like the same thing. If you can run P95 on both cores for 8hrs, your system is stable.

As far as the 3dMark06 result, I feel your pain. As a matter of fact, the first time I ran it on my 3800 X2 was last night and I was blown away with the 1fps on the CPU test.

The vCore thing. Get your clock speed where you want it and run Prime or something for a long time to stress it hard. If it's stable, drop your vcore. Keep doing this until you find that spot where you get your stable-ness and your lack-of-heat-ness.

btw - my 3800 X2 is at 2.65ghz and 1.3850 vcore
