Thank you, I'll try it. How do I flash BIOS tho? Sorry I clearly don't know a lot about hardware :')

It looks like you might be using version 7817 (which is the latest version available) according to the screen shot you provided. The date is also close to the one listed on the website (they are often off by a few days so I wouldn't worry too much about that).

Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

Does the MSI utilities have a way to update or flash the BIOS?

BIOSes for the H81M-P33 can be found here:
https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H81M-P33

The manual can be found here:
https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H81M-P33#down-manual
Although I found it unhelpful with BIOS updates.

You have linked the correct motherboard, yes. To update the BIOS there is a menu called M-FLASH, but I have no idea how to flash the BIOS.

Download the BIOS from the link above. Unzip it and place it on a flash drive. Reboot and go into the BIOS and see if there is update/flash option in there. Like I said, the manual wasn't very helpful. I can ask for help if you can't figure it out.

I tried what you said already. Downloaded the zip, put it on a flash drive and when I selected which file to update from the whole BIOS froze, my mouse stopped responding and the only thing that helped was a PC restart.

Thanks for pinging me.
Flashing the bios works for some time. For me it has worked anywhere between 2 days to 2 years. When you get that error, you flash the bios again.

  1. You download latest bios from this link > https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H81M-P33. Current latest BIOS is 7817v1A.
  2. You extract the main bios file 'E7817IMS.1A0' to your pen drive root level. So if your pen drive is F: then the file should be F:\E7817IMS.1A0
  3. Restart your PC, press F1 to go into setup. Go in that mFlash option at left bottom. On the right side there are two options something like, 'Flash BIOS' and Flash BIOS and ME'. Choose option 'Flash BIOS'. It will then show your pendrive. Choose that.
  4. Flashing takes a minute or two. That should do it. You may need to set some bios options as everything will be reset.
Let me know if these steps help.

At the end nothing happens because it simply freezes. Waited 10+ minutes but nothing at all. I have to press the restart button on my case.

@lockhrt999 @gardenman Quick update: I tried to flash the BIOS to an older version: it froze just like on the video posted above... Then I tried to flash it to the latest version, it worked, but after a couple days the error message came back. I have no idea how I can fix this. Yes, the CMOS battery is 100% good, I measured it with a device and the Volt level was good. I also tried to clear the CMOS, then this error mesage goes away but comes back eventually. It's annoying as hell.

There's no real permanent solution for this problem, unless you want to buy a different motherboard.
