How do I disable a specific core on a multi-core CPU

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my Phenom II X6 1100T. I have encountered a problem where my computer will blue screen whenever core3 (the 4th core) of the CPU comes under load. I've tried everything from updating BIOS to unplugging my DVD-ROM drive from the PSU to see if it was an issue with that.

The only thing I can tell is that it's most likely a faulty CPU core. According to the Windows logs, 90% of the BSODs that I have experienced are a result of a hardware failure, and more specifically Core3.

I've started setting the Affinity for most of the programs I've used and disabling Core3, which has drastically reduced the amount of BSODs that I've experienced, but sometimes I forget when I install a new program.

What I'm wondering is if there's a way I can just disable Core3 completely so that my forgetfulness won't result in another BSOD.

The only options that I could find online involving cpu core management are:
1. the msconfig way, but that doesn't let me choose specific cores.
2. using cmd line to change an option, but I was only able to find a way to boot with 1 core

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

(I wish I could have just used the manufacturer warranty to get a replacement, but I didn't know that it was a faulty core until well after the end of my warranty period :\)

If it's a bad core, then you should be able to return it for a new one - has it always done this?

I believe if it's a manufacturing defect, AMD will take care of you.

The AMD Phenom II X6 microprocessors weren't released until April 2010. They come with a 3 year warranty. Even if you had bought it on launch day it would still be covered under warranty.

Contact AMD for a replacement.
