I was installing Windows 7 updates and it was taking a long time with absolutely no activity so I force shut it down.

To my surprise, when I turned it back on it showed:

"WARNING!! Machine is not in committed state".

Product Information not valid

The following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.

System BOARD (00A) -

Product Name

Product Configuration ID
Product Serial Number

Product SKU

ENTER - Continue Startup

I have been searching for over a MONTH without any answers. I have also created an HP thread here
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Noteb...uct-Information-not-valid/m-p/8842460#M302555

My laptop model is HP Elitebook 8440p, XT917UT#ABA

I have shipped the laptop to HP and they too have rejected the repair. "We no longer have the tooling to support this model."
How the hell do I get rid of this error?!??!?!!?

I don't know WHY I have to go so deep to get support for a problem that isn't even hardware related. This is unacceptable.

Also, I DID NOT replace the motherboard, it occurred by itself, I am not responsible for this error!

Actually, you ARE responsible for this error. You NEVER turn off a computer in the middle of something like updates just because you're impatient and think it's taking too long.

It is possible that you corrupted the BIOS when you turned it off, although I'd be looking at a very corrupted Windows installation or even possibly a hosed hard drive.

First step is to remove all installed drives and reattempt the boot. You should see an error to the effect "no bootable media". If you still see "WARNING!! Machine is not in committed state" then you're looking at having to locate the required software to attempt a reprogramming of the motherboard. This is something only available to authorized technicians and service facilities.

Any logical person would do that if it's taking forever. I already checked the HDD light to see if there was activity - there wasn't, and it had been 30 minutes. There is no way something like that could corrupt the BIOS. It was already on the latest BIOS. There is absolutely no excuse for something like that to occur. I think you may have forgotten that Windows is separate from BIOS.

Additionally, HP said themselves that this could only occur after a motherboard switch. Which did not happen.

The process takes as long as it needs to take and there may well be long stretches where it looks like nothing is happening. Any decent tech knows this.

Yes it could. When you literally pull the plug like you did anything can happen. Again, any decent tech knows this.

There is absolutely no excuse for something like that to occur.
Agreed, when you do things properly. You didn't.

Of course I did it properly. That being said, I do not care in the slightest if I did it properly or not, and I do not have time to argue about this silly topic.

So, back to the question, how do you get rid of this error?

None. If the information programmed into the BIOS has become corrupted then it must be rewritten, which requires special software from HP, available to authorized service centers and technicians.
Well, if you read my post, you would know that they have rejected the repair. If there are no more solutions, then don't reply to this thread. If there are more, I will gladly follow them if I have not done them yet.

If you can't repair the current motherboard, you may simply need to replace the motherboard you do have to solve the issue (if keeping this system alive is your primary concern).

Is there any way of reprogramming the BIOS? I have tried using HP BIOS Config Utility and wndmifit but it does nothing. Also I tried NbDmifit but it keeps returning error 0x89 and displays "failed to write SKU number" "failed to write product number"

As mentioned earlier, only HP likely has (had) the tools for this. Sorry, but I don't see a user applicable solution here short of swapping the motherboard.

At this point, I’ve pretty much lived with it and given up at this point. Nobody is willing to help. Though, I did put a note in my head to never buy hp again.
