[SOLVED] I want to upgrade my CPU as I get a lot of bottleneck but I can't update my BIOS. Is it worth the risk to update anyway?

CPU = Pentium Dual Core E5700,
GPU = GTX 960 2GB,
MOBO = Acer Veriton M275,
RAM = 8GB at 800mhz.

I have a Pentium Dual-Core E5700 and want to upgrade to an Intel Core2Duo E8500. My BIOS version does not show up anywhere I look and I can't find an update for it that supports Windows 10. Also everywhere I look people say that this board only supports 4GB of memory, but on Task Manager it shows up with 8GB. Should I upgrade the CPU anyway or does anyone have any ideas on what I should do to find an update?

Solution
The E8500 is older than the E5700. should already be supported by your BIOS. I would try E7500 with a tapemod to 3.6GHz.

Many MB originally came with 4GB limit. But as time went by newer modules with larger capacity became available. The spec. sheet usually doesn't get updated to show this. It's very common. You RAM speed of 800 is probably due to the CPU fsb being 800. It will probably jump up to 1066 when you change the CPU.

You can look around in here to see what others are running in that computer. I see Win10 running in there.

The tapemod is here. The 2nd photo.

That GTX960 is a nice GPU for an old system like that. Good luck with it.
