I just bought WinXP SP2 to replace WinMe. The Me is unusuable as the hard
drive got corrupted and now won't load.
The problem i have is that as Me won't load i have to load XP in DOS, but
when i try i am told that SETUP.EXE can't be loaded in DOS mode, unlike 98
etc.

So, how do i load XP onto a brand new hard drive???

Oh. just to complicate things, it is the Japanese version i'm loading!!

Thanks

Follow this link for a Clean Installation:

The language should not be a problem.
However you are aware that if you bought Japanese, Japanese is what
you get.
You can not change the language of Windows XP to another language.

Thanks for that.

I am aware about the language thing. My wife finds it a whole lot easier,
being Japanese, and you can load and use English software onto a Japanese
system no worries, but not visa-versa!

Hi,

It's the winnt.exe file in the I386 folder on the CD that you must run to
setup from a boot floppy or DOS.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
