Sorry if there is already a related thread, but I've done a search and couldn't find anything topics related to my question.

My computer is used mostly for gaming and light projects (digital imaging, video editing). I have the opportunity to recieve a new computer, but I don't know if my current computer is better. Most of the specs between the two computers are the same, except the CPU.

current - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
new - AMD Athlon 64 3000+

I don't know much about CPUs so I thought I'd ask here. Which is the better choice for gaming and light projects? If you do reply, please do me a favor and include an explaination for your answer so that I can learn something. Thank you!

Splendid
We would need to know if that is a P4a, P4b, P4c, P4e, or a P4 prescott-a
If it's a P4c, it will be a little slower in gaming (about 15% fewer frames) but better @ some video encoding.
Any of the other chips would be worse by varying degrees.
In gaming, add 200 to the Amd to get it's Intel equivalent speed. ( an A64 3200 games as well as an Intel 3.4ghz)
