Prices will initially be a small ~$25-$50 premium over whatever chip is being replaced, with a higher premium based on SKU. Just like always. Prices will fall to "normal" levels within 6 months or so. Just like always.
 

yes. and the ones with iris and iris pro (GT3/e) igpu will have larger premiums over the GT2 parts. as long as bdw doesn't come to desktops, dt prices will follow the usual trends. mobile however, could be a clusterfudge.
 


Yes, Skylake is coming some months after Broadwell. This is because Intel had problems with the 14nm node and delayed Broadwell, but has not delayed Skylake, shorting the replacement time.
 
I might buy the chip everyone is looking at as being boring broadwell, since it should work in my board.

65 watt high clock I7 sounds good to me. Sure skylake will be 5-15% faster per clock but not sure i care enough to switch over. Mainly care about heat output hoping broadwell is decent in that area.
 



So what you're saying is. Even though skylake would have a higher base clock, broad well would be better in the long run for ocing? As the tdp would be much lower because of the voltage?
 
No i'm not saying that at all lol. Just stating my board will only support broadwell and if it comes out it will be good enough for me. Not sure how it will overclock or the temps involved. I'm hoping the temps are great and the power consumption is low however.

intel's igpus are still relatively power hungry the last time i check a.k.a. haswell. bdw still isn't quite there, so intel will use the node shrink And moar fine tuning in skylake's. let's face it, those are just video processors with alus for compute. 😛
 
Not really. I've seen claims of "up to" 60% performance gains, but again, "up to" = best case. I wouldn't be socked at a 20-30% average gain though. Intel does seem to be serious about upgrading its iGPU capabilities.
 
Intel plan to kill AMD and Nvidia is very old. It is a long-term plan. For 2015--2016 period it consists on two attacks. Skylake will attack the lower/medium GPU business with good enough integrated graphics for most people and Phi KNL CPU will attack the top-end GPGPUs on raw performance.
 


It'll probably be equivalent to the 730.
 


Now lets not go this far the IGPU will be getting much more capable over the years every generation Intel improved their iGPU by 30% or more. HBM or simply stacked memory will help bandwidth issues. IGPU can already do 3 monitors at once in 1080P movie playback which is enough for most people.

With my 4600 graphics i could play almost all my games on Xbox 360 level graphics, with further improvements we might see PS4 level graphics before the eighth generation of consoles are done. Mantle+12 will help in CPU limited cases pushing GPU performance even more. Intel has mainly improved their iGPU over the last few generations instead of their CPU.

Can't wait to see what Zen+Skylake+K12 brings to the table its going to be fun.
 
Prior to SB, Intel iGPUS stank. They're putting effort in it now though, and Intel is making a LOT of progress on that front. One or two more generations, and I wouldn't be shocked if they surpassed AMD in that department.
 


I expect Skylake to outperform Kaveri and be neck-to-neck with Carrizo.

almost skipped it until i saw HD6000 in the specs list...
edit: hmm, the gfx and gaming results were unsurprising. intel's shipping gpu drivers are atrocious to say the least. it takes them a year or two and a couple of major driver updates to bring out halfway passable gaming perf off the igpus. so even if there's gfx perf available, the software is limiting a major portion of it. after drivers deliver, those socs will be b-necked by thermals.
