Well if any of the "rumors" are right its supposed to release at or before the 18th during san fransisco's intel developer's forum where they're actually going to go in depth on the actual architecture difference between broadwell and skylake. It sucks having to wait pretty much two full weeks to get the chip. So the i5's coming out on the 14th but the i7's the 18th? Why the weird delay? Wouldn't they want more money, i mean everyone else got both chips at the same time?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sx1kLGVAF0 For all those ivy bridge users. Might wanna check out the gains with skylake.

That said, i think it's kind of smart in a way for intel to use poopy thermal compound on it's ihs's. It encourages people to de-lid at the very least delidding a non soldered ihs is a lot easier with intels thermal compound. Then again how much worse are temps from a de lidded cpu vs a soldered one?

To be reserved for the Devil's Canyon or whatever they will call it for Skylake. 😉

Edit: Overclocking got too easy anyway. Forcing hardware modifications like delidding and polishing bring back the old days of enthusiast overclockers.

I see reason to upgrade this E5300... Turns out that the mobo supports the e8400... Others have reported it as supporting it, and Amazon has one fo ~15 bucks with shipping and tax... 3x the Cache and at 3.16 Ghz.... Now lets compare that to the next gen i3(skylake)

I would say the E8400 wouldn't stand a chance, as even with an overclock, ivy i3 is faster than a yorkfield C2Q, gaming wise.

Skylake doesn't offer any real improvement, over Ivy that makes it worth the hassle, or cost. I would get more gaming performance, by getting rid of my GTX 770 and replacing it with a GTX 970. Only reason I would consider a CPU upgrade, would be for CPU folding. For the money, a used 3770k, or a 1230v2 would make more sense, than spending what it would cost to get Skylake.

According to Intel, availability should improve "soon"...

Basically, the articles state that Intel has said that it is aware of supply problems in "some areas of North America and Latin America". Some? More like all, but I digress. They go on to state that we can expect "improved supply soon". No mention on if the products have shipped, if the trucks are on their way, , etc. Just "soon".

ivy bridge and sandy bridge practically have the same frame rate, at the same overclock. Theirs a window for about 20 fps gains in some games.

When you run games on a titan x at 1080p with no aa then yeah there's extra fps like in the video, I'm not sure my 680 at 1080p would even benefit from a faster cpu though?

The extra frames are coming from the cpu architecture. I don't believe it has anything to do with the fact its a titan x in the rig. I think that was used to make a more controlled test. Get a base line so you can give accurate numbers on actual benefits between cpu's all clocked at the same speed. you can see a big improvement in *cpu intesnive games. It also depends on what game your playing but if a game off loads on the cpu a lot more you'll see big gains.

But, you could also argue that a 2700k could get higher a overclock which i think a skylake chip could easily get according to various review sites, stating how well it overclocks though i guess we'll have to wait until more reviews come out to see the actual difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDo-j00vUtw If you look at this video the difference from a stock and overclocked skylake chip isn't too massive. Sure you get more frames, but the frame rate difference isn't huge. Meaning it's the architecture not the ghz that matter.

i5 6600k processors have gone on sale at several sites today, including NewEgg and TD. But I'm waiting for the 6700k... hopefully this means we will see the i7 within the next few days.

Same here, I already have my motherboard and RAM, just need the damn CPU so I can retire my old LGA 1156 platform. I hope the Canadian release isn't horribly delayed, Newegg Canada says they aren't even going to have the 6600k until August 31st, and the 6700k is still up in the air like the US.

I probably hit the F5 key every 10 minutes. I have at least 5 stores open that at least list the i7 6700k (as not available, not in stock, coming soon, etc), and tomorrow I'll probably be open to 10+ stores on my browser.

Same boat here, I have everything I need except a CPU. And I'm trying to resist the urge to buy a 6600k. One thing I do is edit videos, and I'm doing a build video, so the HT will help me a little. I went high end on all my other components, I don't want to cop out on the processor...

Edit: Got a reply back from SuperBiiz.com, and they say they have no ETA on the i7 6700k. I know it's probably a canned response, but somebody somewhere must know whether they are on a truck heading to stores, or if they are still being boxed up at the factory...

Intel Skylake-U Lineup Leaked - Core i7-6600U Leads The Pack, Intel Iris Graphics Variants Arrive in Q1 2016

any source to that?
intel seems to have started a staggered release of these cpus.
it was already bad enough with the broadwell screwups turning into semi vaporwares.

Say it aint so. I've seen some articles saying something like that but i refuse to believe it. Man, amd needs to get their act together. Force intel to stop being jerks about their dumb releasing schedules.
