Yea, but there is this comment, from Intel.

Addition 10/21: The quote direct from Intel is that 'we do not validate or support Xeon E3 SKUs with client chipsets'. This has always been the case in the past so nothing on the official line has changed, and at this time Intel is not making any additional comment to the adjustment in compatibility.

Hopefully we shall see an official statement, from the MB manufacturers. They were supposed to make non Z overclocking, but they did it anyway.

Intel Broadwell-E to have 4 skus with the Extreme Edition to have 10 cores and 20 threads

LOL nice

$550 is not bad for a 8 core unlocked CPU, especially since it would eat the current FX 8350 up in single and multithreaded performance.

Guess we have to wait and see if there is any more improvement to the design such is bus speeds and such.

LOL jimmy while $550 isn't bad, its more than twice the price of the three year old amd chip you reference. of course it would eat the 8350.

Whats amazing is it would be just as fast as the current 8 core unlocked intel cpu that costs $1000. Now we have a deal.

Just an observation.

And that is just how it goes. My HD7970GHz was a $550 dollar GPU when it was top of the crop. Then it became the $250 dollar GPU in the R9 280X.

Same thing with the quad cores. They were the $1K CPUs when they first came out then they got cheaper and cheaper.

Not bad. 4 years to become half the price and without a die shrink. So in 2019 we can get Fiji for $225 maybe. :)

1230v5 is not server, it is a workstation CPU, technically. Why pay more for an igp that I would never use? The 1231v3 was little more than a 4770, without IGP, but was around $50 less, typically. Back in the day, an X3210/3220/3230 were basically little more than a Q6400/6660/6700 respectively. I used to run an X3210 @ 3.6ghz. Was far cheaper than a Q6600, at the time.

We're getting 'gaming' c series motherboards from asrock and others and hopefully some budget consumer friendly c series boards. If bclk overclocking is enabled the 1230 series will remain the ultimate value intel chip imo.

Sorry man it was Asus, I think I typed asrock because I to have used them in my personal rigs for years!

I have heard that Intel is going to be releasing an update that is going to unlock the I5 6600, any truth to this, so I can get a mobo with a z170 chipset rather than the H170

Not even close to the truth.

Currently, AsROCK has a BIOS update that allows OC to ANY LGA1151 processors that do not have the unlock multiplier. That includes i3-6100, and perhaps even the G4500. But it requires a Z170 motherboard.
