Is Badcompany 2 multiplayer any good?

The tracer gun is right up there on the useless list along side of the spotting sniper scope. At first I thought the tracer gun would help draw rpgs to the tank somehow but it just marks it. The only time it came in useful for me was when the tank popped some smoke and I could see the tracer square through the smoke cloud to still aim at it. Other than that, I don't see the purpose to mark a vehicle with a tracer.

If I am playing the engineer kit to combat tanks, I don't mind having the tracer gun over the pistol...the problem I have is that I am not going to get in close and shoot a fing tracer dart when I can shoot an rpg instead and take the tank out faster. The benefit for the dart just doesn't outweigh the extra rpg you can get off when the tank is in view.

Is the multiplayer good? simple answer: you can have a bad day and get like 1000pts in one hour,
or have a great day (like i just did) and get 60K in 3 hours
So with that broad of a range, I'd say its safe to say the multiplayer is good.
It really depends on what server tho. Some servers just piss me off, then some i play on for hours because they are great.

When I say I haven't really got to grips with the engineer kit I mean that I haven't really played it much, just occasionally spawned in to deal with a persistant tank. I tend to try and have a fairly mobile anti infantry squad so am generally either assault or medic, always played the same way in 2142 as well, tend to shy away from the vehicles - just a personal preference.

Some other things, the squad deathmatch is good fun if you get 4 decent squads. Keeping mobile without walking into a crossfire is a constant challenge. And the smoke launcher works as you'd like it to which is great when defending in rush against those pesky recons. The rush map with all the jetskis and helicopters can be a real snipe fest for the attackers, and I've had a lot of success with using the smoke launcher to keep a pretty constant smoke screen between the mcom stations and the sniper hills front left whilst keeping a clear view over the sea to the front. Works well to cover a mobile infantry squad whilst attacking as well if you all pack smoke.

The tracer dart is awesome for killing tanks while in cover. Ping the tank with it, and get into cover. It will then get a red box around it. Hover your sight for the rpg etc over this box and after a few seconds it will give you the distance. (you can do this through walls etc) You are now locked and you can then stay totally hidden behind a wall, fire straight up into the sky and the round will fly up and then arc down onto the tank. Very satisfying when the tank hasnt got a clue where its come from, using either the rpg or gustav, (you cant use the self guiding one). Hope this helps with killing those pesky tanks.. Engineer should pack the tracer dart, rpg or similar, the expanded ammo pouch and high explosive shells. Works wonders :)

Tracer dart gives the RPG/Gustuv lock-on ability. Simply hit the target with a dart, and all you have to do is aim at it for 1/2 a second for a lock to be achieved, and shoot.

Even better: The Tracer Dart has NO drop whatsoever; you can shoot across the entire map with 100% accuracy. Slow and takes getting used to, but once you get the timing down, its easy to light up vehicles. Especially choppers...

Yeah I might work on that Insignia at some point once I figure out how to really use it to my advantage. haha. I unlocked all kits so many I will. Rifles are all preference. The GOL has better accuracy, but I think it takes a little longer to reload than the M24. The M24 site also has the notches which are a HUGE help for me.
People use the M95 because they feel a big ol .50 Cal will rock the hot totty like in most other games. But a huge caliber rifle will never be better than a well placed shot.

Very true. I've been on some crap server with no admins and no punkbuster. I always filter my servers by PB, however, sometimes my buddies don't and i join their server.

THAT! is a great idea. I will have to use it. One think I do wish they had was the ability to have smoke grenades rather than frag grenades, not just on a launcher. Last night I decided to snipe them right back. On the last section you can run to the east side of the map run up the small sloped ledge to get in this little piece of lowered rock on the hill. That is where I sat. I could peak up over and launch a mortar strike on the hill. I also plucked several people out of the constant blackhawks flying over. I think I really only was killed 3 times in that place and got about 15 kills. (jumped on the server just when the 2nd to last Mcom was taken.)

That is very helpful on how to use the tracer dart. I will definitely try that out.

HAHA, the .50 has bullet drop but the tracer dart doesn't? funny. I will have to arm myself this way the next time I hit that map with all the tanks. You know the one with the 3 flags in the middle of the LONG map. Can't remember the name.

I miss the weighted frag throw of 2142. Unless I am being dense and you can do it in BC2? More often than not I want to just dolly a frag over a wall or up onto a ledge but you have to end up looking to bounce it off something in order to get it to finish where you want with the full power throw.

The grenades act more realistic on BC2. I've blown myself up a few times because it rolled off a hill or I miss judged. I was pretty darn accurate in BF2142, but it's a whole new learning curve.

Fun thing to do: On the rush map with the island base, there is a spot on a side island where you can get a perfect view of the chopper spawn from cover (you hide under debris, which has a hole you can look through).

Perfect sniper spot; I've shot the chopper pilots right out of the chopper, and put tracer darts on teh chopper the second it spwans. And it always takes the team a few minutes to bother to send anyone to clear it out. 😀

Bullet drop while sniping seems minimal in BC2. Slight drop at long range, but far easier for me to work with then in BF2. I'm actually decent as a sniper (once I know where the other guy is at least...)

No Sh**** I guess I have too much ADD and didn't wait long enough for the locking to happen. When I tried it, I just shot towards the box and noticed the rpg didn't follow the tank as it moved.

The nades are a little froggy for me. Have you noticed when you throw them up into a window, they bounce off the wall and then do a loopty-loop back into the window? I think they bounce waaaaay to much though. I suicide too many times because it bounces off a wall and comes right back at me. I usually can't judge fast enough if they are going to do the loopty-loop trick and go in the window or if they will just bounce off and land at me feet.

Yup. I end up hitting the top of the window, saying Oh S****, and running as fast as my shift button lets me.

I still hate the 40mm Noob Tuber more. The Gustav is annoying when people use it as an assult rifle and I get killed from 20 ft away. Happened tonight, was angry. The M60 is quickly becoming something I hate. Was just in a game that everyone was a sniper or had an m60. Was very annoying that I was plucked off from SO far away by a LMG.

Ahh the tracer dart is awesome. Had so much fun with it over the weekend, mostly tracing snipers and then raining RPGs on them by locking on and firing vertically. Interestingly the alternate fire of the helicpoters - the hellfire missile - acts the same way, there is a cool vid here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7h2VZKMxRY ) by Silver showing how they are used and the curvature you can get on the missile paths to shoot around buildings.

OH NO! you are one of them!. haha. I do use the M60 as well. It is just annoying when EVERYONE uses the M60. I was being blasted my M60 fire with a single shot from soooo far away. It just seemed unrealistic to me. n00b tubes! I hate them more than anything.

I will have to watch this tonight as it is blocked where I am at now. So the hellfire of the helicopters follow the tracer darts to?

When you say tracing snipers, please explain. Can you stick tracer darts on things other than a vehicle?

Oh yes, A tracer dart on a player works just as effectively as a tracer dart on a vehicle. Trace that sniper, hide behind a building then lockon through the walls then fire vertically - great fun. Must be awesome to watch the RPG track from a 3rd person perspective.

And yes the helicopter hellfires work well in tracking the tracers - very well as you'll see in the vid. The alternate fire of the helicopter gunner is - usefully - a tracer dart, so your co-pilot can tracer while you hellfire if you both have the alternate weapon option equipped. The hellfires will loop around if you are firing against an enemy copter and it misses first time.

That is freakin awesome. I will have to tracer dart me some snipers. I bet its almost as fulfilling as walking up behind them and stabbing them in the neck. HAHA. I would dart them and wait a second for people to spawn on them. AWESOME!.

So if you have the alternate vehicle weapons gadget thinger and you are the co-pilot you can shoot tracer darts? Interesting. However, as the pilot you only have the hellfire, right?

Oh, a TG video.

I can recommend Tactigal gamer servers to everyone, if you hate bunnyhopping morons and like solid teamplay.
I have not had a chance to play BC2 yet (1.5 weeks till I can build my pc!), but their BF2, PR and BF2142 servers have always been the only servers I've played on in those games.
