It's cool for the reason you mentioned, but I also think that it's sad that we're now needing seperate PSUs just to power our video cards. Then again, a new unit with higher wattage would be money in the bank if the R600 is truly as power hungry as sources* have made it out to be.

Yeah it's sad we need extra PSUs for gfx cards. But, that's the price you have to pay for performance (until nV/ATI wake up and start the performance-per-watt battle).

I don't expect a peformance-per-watt battle of the same scale as the Intel-AMD fight in the GPU industry. Once nVidia and ATi decide to shrink their GPUs, the power consumption will decrease. I heard that TSMC has 45nm working, so hopefully we'll see that by early 2008.

That thing should be at least 450 Watts to be a PERFECT upgrade so anybody can SLI 2x8800GTX. But for now I dont think is worth it since anybody would like to go SLI with 7xxx series cards when 8xxx series are out.

Also, takes 1 5.25" bay which my case doesnt have cuz im using all of them. Would be better to have it outside (external)

Well, I don't think they were thinking about the massive power the G80 consumes 😀. But, once they release version 2 of that product, I'm sure it will support G80 (if they DO release v2).
