Sounds to me like you are still within the Windows installation pocess,
which reboots at some point. DO NOT press any key at this time - let
Windows do what it needs to do.

After installation is really complete, remove the CD from the drive, so
that you are not prompted with this message again.

There's no such frigging thing as "off of".

Two hours is a "bit" long - two minutes should be more than enough
before you see some action.

So let's see if I understand this. You get the message "PRESS ANY KET
TO LOAD CD" and then what, it just sits there forever?

I assume everything is working correctly when you start the Windows
install process. i.e., your keyboard and mouse work, yes? Are you using
a USB keyboard? Mouse? Is your mouse working when you get stuck?

Oh yes, I forgot. Disconnect all external devices before you start the
Windows install, and add them after the installation is satisfactorily
completed.

yes, after the first time xp loads all the files, it tells youit will
restart in 15 seconds and begins counting.at that point the message to press
any key to continue comes up,this would if my keyboard was alive at that
point allow xp to begin loading on to my drive.
i have no external devices plug in and keyboard and mouse are usb. also no
way of telling if mouse is working screen is in dos mode.

I'm not sure I'm concerned about your inability to press a key on the
keyboard, as you should not have to do so at this stage anyway. Windows
should continue with the installation process without any input from
you.

However, I can't help but wonder if the fact that you have USB KB and
mouse is relevant. Perhaps somebody who has installed Windows under
these conditions can provide some input here.

In your BIOS, you probably have some options pertaining to Legacy USB,
or somesuch. Although I don't have any specific ideas, it may useful to
know if you have this option enabled or disabled. It could be
worthwhile to try to change the setting and trying again.
