Killing Dagoth Ur - disappointingly easy

Having read a few hints and spoilers, and various bits of advice, I
really was expecting for a megalithic battle with Dagoth Ur.

But no. A few knocks of Sunder, and he falls over the bridge and
vanishes.

I realise my character is relatively strong - Strength was at 120 with
the hammer, and the hammer also gave some shielding, but I didn't have
many other enhancements. I didn't use any of the Heart*** Rings, for
example. Or use any special scrolls beforehand. I'm not even maxed
out in Blunt Weapons (84). I took two Quality Restore Health during
the fight and that was it.

Anyone else massively underwhelmed by the strength of this supposed
"god"?

I think everybody was disappointed. Unfortunately Morrowind allows the
character to become god-like much too early on in the game. The skill
system needs tweaking.

You were going to throw dolmens at each other?

Has little to do with the blows he received. If you fly across the void, he
will often try to follow and slip into the magma

Serious weakness in the endgame.

Without reading anything in the way of spoilers, my 22 level combat
character beat him first try. I agree that it was way too easy.

No kidding. I was a level -- what was it, 40? -- that had absolutely no
trouble killing the punk. I used no special enchantments or 'heart rings';
just my armor and my 211 health. At first, foolishly, I was using Keening
to try and skewer him -- the 15 damage didn't do much. Then I took a few
whacks with my trusty hammer 'Sunder' and SPLAK! all over the place.

Well, ish.

I assume you dealt with the heart first?

You insult me? Note the keyword, *few* whacks. This constitutes around
a dozen. You also forget that I probably didn't die because I used
evasive action to dodge spells.

A wonderful trick.

Gee, I think we are misunderstanding each other. My question was, did
you attack the heart before you attacked Dagoth Ur? Because in my
experience he's easy to kill after he is mortal. All the Gods of the
Tribunal become mortally vulnerable after the heart has been dealt with
(I thought).

Or am I missing something?

Did anybody out there off Dagoth Ur ~before~ killing the heart? I
thought that was impossible.

It is not impossible, but he doesn't stay dead. I whacked him down
with Sunder twice before I found the Heart. He goes down like any
other foe, but the body immediately disappears. Then he shows up
later in another place.

You have a point - in my most recent encounter I took out Dagoth Ur in
4 strokes after chopping the heart. This is chiefly notable because I
did it Sunder and Keening and *WITHOUT* Wraithguard. This of course is
the hard way. :)

I had a very good time killing off Dagoth UR. I cast many golden saints,
several dremora, shield, and several other spells to keep him busy, while I
attacked the heart.
Once i saw the heart collapse, I used levitate to drift off and watch
dagoth cry like a baby and the golem fall apart.
This is why, to me, the amulet of levitation is one of the best items
inna game. I also used the amulet to finish off the others bad guys in that
area. It was easy, because I figured out how to do it after about a dozen
tries....there was even one time i had the dwarven axe. I could not get
aloft!!! Took me a couple of times before I realised I had to drop the 43
pound axe! DUH!--dennis

Yeah, so did I, but he doesn't stay dead until you destroy the heart, so
IMHO earlier "kills" don't count as really killing him.

Don't give him a hard time. Summoning multiple golden saints to attack
Dagoth Ur while you do in the heart (and take no further part in the
combat) is in fact one of the more creative ideas.

I just wish I'd saved my game before I last attacked him - I thought
my last victory over Dagoth Ur (which featured doing it without
Wraithguard) was pretty good but you have me beat.

This is true, but still, I had a great time. One of the better end game
scenarios. I reckon my all fave is the one in Bloodmoon. I liked the
"closeups" in dagoth Ur. My palms were actually sweating! I'm a wimp, but
clean my mouse regularly........hehheh.

I'm not looking forward to Bloodmoon with my present character. This
is the one who killed Dagoth Ur without Wraithguard primarily by the
use of extra-strong potions (Strength = 12000 for starters with
Restore Health 500+ points per second for 500 seconds) I've been
playing on highest difficulty since the beginning and having taken on
the Werewolves in the Ice Castle previously on the highest difficulty
setting this could be tough.

Right now the toughest weapon I have is the Umbra sword and that seems
a bit under-powered - I'm trying to do the Imperial Cult and Temple
quests having become GM of House Redoran and without my chemical
enhancements even the rats occasionally do major damage (I put aside
my ebony armor since it was too heavy and am wearing only the Lords
Mail, the two gloves of Ranagulf, Boots of the Apostle and a Dreugh
Helm - looking at my character you'd see from his picture that legs
and arms are exposed.) as my plan is to get to the end of Bloodmoon
WITHOUT using Fortify Strength potions in the final encounter.

I expect this to be considerably tougher than when I won Bloodmoon at
level 11 with >major< use of potions. I don't know if I'm going to do
Tribunal but expect to go there to finish off the Dark Brotherhood if
nothing else.

okay I can put my hand up and say I'm the only one having trouble killing
Dagoth Ur off. He keeps on falling off the edge and into the lava, where I
can't get to him and I can't seem to do any damage to the heart. Have I
missed something?

You need to follow him over the edge. You must have, Wraithguard, Sunder
and Keening eqipped. You should have a levitate spell or amulet/ring, etc.
He will be waiting for you at the middle of the bridge to the heart. I cast
several Golden saints, used the rings I got from him, cast levitate, flew
over him to the heart, hit heart 3 times with Keening, and then pounded away
with Sunder until the heart collasped, then I levitated away at watched it
all.....

yeah, got it now, forgot I had keening. Couldn't find Dagoth Ur after I'd

Anyone ever tried using the REALLY nice arrows you can get from Solthsiem?
I did the Bloodmoon expansion (the second time) before finishing the main
quest. When I got to Ur, I nocked up one of those drain health 5000 arrows,
and he went down in ONE shot... and disappeared.

I waited several minutes for him to re-appear, looked all over the place,
including in the lava, and he was nowhere to be found. Now THAT's boring.
