Hello experts

I am looking for some opinions and new perspectives. My question below is about if it worth the upgrade considering the cost

I am not happy with the current performance of my PC on CSGO (around 200FPS with lots of variations)
I am looking to upgrade my hardware by starting with the MB, as my current one does to allow memory upgrade (16gb max)
My current PC configuration:
i7 6700 3.40GHz
Medion B150H-EM
DDR4-2134 16GB (2x8GB)
GeForce GTX 1070

To avoid high cost I have been searching for the MB upgrade but to keep my current CPU for the moment (so 1151 v1 socket)
After buying a MB (for example Z390 high budget or B250G, B360M, H370M low budget) I would then be able to invest on better DIMMS and CPU
Possible upgrade:
i7-7700 3.60GHz (450EUR)
Gigabyte B360M (150EUR)
DDR4-2666 32GB (4x8GB or 2x16GB) (160EUR)
GeForce GTX 1070

What do you think about the cost/benefit of this upgrade? Will the 1151 V1 socket impact on future proof as there is the 1151 V2 for 7th and 8th generations?

Thanks

Djean

Your cpu won’t work on a 300 chipset (Z390). Intel restricted 6000 & 7000 series to 100 & 200 chipsets and 8000 & 9000 series to 300 chipsets. They are not interchangeable so the idea won’t work.

Going to a 7700 is pointless, the gain over a 6700 is negligible.

Thank you for the clarification! So I will not upgrade CPU :)
so I would have to aim for a different MB, which one is the best that can work with my CPU i7 6700?
My main reason for this upgrade is because of the memory, even after a clean Windows10 the 16GB 2133Mhz still seems not enough

Your motherboard should support 32GB with 2x16GB modules.

What exactly are you doing, that 16GB is not enough? For pure gaming this should be plenty.
Thanks for your feedback
I have spoken with Medion support as I could not find the manual of the MB and they confirmed 16GB (2x 8GB) is the maximum
Model: B150H4-EM
Chipset: Intel Skylake 07
userBenchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/26949612

Theoretically my PC should be running games like CSGO and Escape from Tarcov smoothy but that is not the case.
The gaming glitches a lot and I believe it may be related of my native resolution, my monitor is Omen 34 with resolution of 3440x1440 so it probably requires much more power than a smaller one
Even by working with Firefox, Outlook, Skype, Thunderbird and Excel open at same time is enough to freeze the PC and have it stuck with basic operations such as typing, dragging files, etc

Boards with Intel B150 chipset support 64GB with 4 ram slots and 32GB with 2 ram slots.
It's possible, at the time of development of the board, there were no 16GB modules available for testing.
So such config is not validated. But it should still work.
I see... I will give it a try soon by finding a good opportunity to purchase 2x16GB
Meanwhile I will install my windows from scratch, update drivers and see if any help

I appreciate the help here
Ps. How can we mark this thread as "resolved" ?
