Looking for advices over a new system

hey i am looking to buy a new system for around 650-800$ i think that a graphic card is not needed.
i am not a great beliver in future proof so i can go with lga775 as well.
i prefer intel, main purpose of this gear will be running smooth 1080p movies and playing games (secondary objective as i own a ps3)
i want it to be quiet as much as possible, overclocking is very doubtful.

i own a graphic card bfg 8800GT 512 OC

so i dont think i need a new card.
no need in keyboard and perhiphals or a monitor.
the computer will be with a 23 lcd running on 1080 and a 42 lcd running on 1920X1080 as well.

to be honest if you are willing to spend 800 usd you can make a beast of a system.

I would highly recommend a new graphics card. even 150usd on the GPU these days can get you a very powerful card. Why spend 800usd? and compromise on the main part of the system. All of us know the CPU doesnt play much of a role.

Go for any cost effective dual core or quad core cpu you can get around the range of 2.5ghz - 2.8ghz that should be enough.

set aside 150usd for the graphics card. i am sure a 260gtx or better can be had.

with that kind of setup you can could be on your way to true 1080p gaming.. plus your games will be cheaper.. over time it will be more cost effective then the ps3. Games will play better look better and an over all superior experience.

plus go for atleast 2gb of ram its pretty cheap these days. Overall i think the system i just described above can be had for about 400-500usd max. specially if you already have the monitor and tv.

constant upgrades are no long needed on the pc front. its due to a number of factors. Graphics cards have become too powerful now,

games these days are usually made with consoles in mind so the jumps in graphics are not too huge like they used to be. which is why even a 8800gtx is still considered to be a very good card.

so in the end i consider this investment should serve you well until the next console generation comes and developers think about making a real jump in terms of graphics.

in this matter what do you think will be better ? ATI HD 4850 Vapor-x 1024
or the Nvidia GTX260 896md
i have never worked with ati all my life i've had nvidia

and for closer would you reccomend this system ?

one last thing i dont know why but the quad core cpu's prices havent dropped down yet in where i live and still priced high even tough i7 and i5 are out at the market, the differnce between the systems is really minimal and only comes down to the cpu and motherboard as all other componnents will remain the same , no real change needed in the memory or gpu so wouldnt i be better off investing a little more and buying the i5 for around 100-150$ differnce ? the system i wrote up will be around 1000$ and the i5 system will be (just changing cpu and m.b)
with the i5 and Intel DP55WG I5 Socket 1156 P55 CHIPSET mobo.

Where did you find that G.Skill RAM ? I couldn't find any on the Israeli sites. I was going to do a low budget build that you could over clock...but that build you have going wih the 8400 looks good.

I'm not so sure about the A Data memory. Try to find a cheap pair of G.Skill "ripjaws". The ones on that site you linked me to where the high end expensive ones.

8800gtx is a very good card but that is the 768mb version.

i feel 512mb of memory available on your version might be a little short for playing at 1080p, it would be fine for 720p imo.

however i am surprised to see the pricing for the g260 in your country. I have seen it on www.newegg.com as low as 150usd some even lower then this.

Remember that it doesnt really matter much which cpu motherboard you get, as long as its above 2.5ghz and has 2gb+memory.

The GPU is the most important part. Compromise on the gpu and nothing else will make up for it. Have you tried importing directly from the usa? or maybe buying it off ebay might be a nice choice, 250usd for a 260gtx is just too much, i have seen them go as low as usd 140.

Yes i would recommend the 260gtx anytime its a great card, only problem might be getting it from the usa the additional frieght paid to get it to your country and then if any taxes are applied it might end up being more expensive then 250usd, so in the end it might better buying it locally.

kashifme21 i agree it is way too much for the gpu, thats why i dont think i will buy it directly from a retailer here and just ebay it for a while, or wait for a price drop down when ati will release thier 5xxx series in october....

so if i want to cut the price down i can actually take a dual core ?

its just too much information and too complicated to buy a desktop pc these days...
its frustrating ... too much selection you get lost in it ...

well planning a system is actually the fun part... atleast for me.

anyways i think you should be fine with a dual core hardly any game takes advantage of a quad core cpu. at 1080p its your gpu which will be the part taking most of the load so it needs to be a good one, try seeing if you can get a 260gtx or 275gtx(if its available at a good price), spending an extra 40-50usd on the gpu is a good investment.

waiting for the 5xxx series might be a good idea.. prices are sure to drop.
