Each time I switch on and use Solitaire I need to enlarge the screen display, even though I have maximised from the top left corner previously. How can I make the size 'lock' at what I want.

Try right clicking the solitaire icon, and properties,
In the Run window, select Maximized.

right click on solitaire's shortcut, click on properties > change run:
normal window to miximized.
