I'm running MDAC 2.7 on a Windows Tablet PC Edition, V5.1 (Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519: SP2) and when trying to upgrade MDAC to v2.8
get the following message:

MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows. All of its
features are currently part of Windows.

Does anyone have a clue as to how to resolve this upgrade problem?

There's no problem. As the message clearly says, all of MDAC 2.8's
functionality is already built into SP2.
