The Messenger service fail to start.
In the WinXP events view I see:
"The Messenger service terminated with service-specific error 2270 (0x8DE)."
And the exit code is 1066 (0x42a).

How can I solve this problem?

In SP2, by default, the Messenger service is turned off. If you want it, you can turn it on.

Start/run, type: services.msc ,Right-click the service that you want to configure, click Properties. On the General tab, in the
Startup type box, To restore Alerter service click Manual. To restore Messenger service click Automatic.

If you don't want it, and this error has you puzzled, you may be seeing some spyware trying to run.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the computer's name is not unique on the
network, for example, if the computer name is also a user name.

The Messenger service listens to the network for messages that are
directed to a set of aliases....
