I usually agree with Tom all the time but I have to protest at his review of the Corsair Water cooling solution.
There are 2 main reasons why we choose water cooling:
1] To get superb cooling at a low noise level
2] To be able to overclock further than air cooling solutions allow.
OK there are other reasons like people wanting to experiment or just to make their PC slightly more original but those above are the main 2.
So then I fail to understand how Tom could give an award for the Corsair solution when he moaned about the noise throughtout the whole review.
Before I get flamed, I know that some people do not care about noise (the Delta group - FOP38 anyone) but IMO this water cooling unit only fulfills part of the brief of such a system. And on top of that it didn't really give a very large cooling increase over the Zalman model that you would expect from such a loud solution.
In fact I would like to bet that the Zalman heatsink would also perform better if it had such a loud beast strapped to it. I would like to bet that the SLK-900 with a loud high volume 92mm fan would be just as good for far less money.
Tom specifically said in one of his major air cooling reviews (where he praised the Silverado) that he would concentrate on low noise in the future when reviewing products as this is what the majority want. So I can't understand why he would give this product an award.
OK great cooling preformance but at what expense? If we can condemn the Geforce FX for creating a such a stupid noise level then why not apply the same test to CPU cooling solutions?
4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020
