Hello, hope everyone is doing good after new year. A friend of mine has now started having a problem with his pc, the last 2 weeks. This is what always happens: we want to play
a game of r6s, and after a couple of rounds (usually just 1) his monitor freezes displaying the last ingame frame. ATP he says he doesn't hear the game anymore, as if it crashed, though he's still able of hear and talk to me through discord voice chat. After his monitor gets stuck, he's unable of doing anything, keyboard and mouse seem to do nothing. Then, he either clicks the restart or holds the power off button, to turn the pc back on. Now his monitor doesn't show any output. No signal recognized, monitor goes to sleep. This keep happening, even after multiple reboots. He then tries to mess with the hdmi port, changing the monitor and gpu ports. He says that the only things that starts showing back output to the monitor, is that he removes the psu plug from the pc, waits 15mins, plugs that back in.

What we tried and worked, just once: removing the gpu driver in safe mode through Display Driver Uninstaller, then going back to normal mode and installing the latest nvidia driver. We were then able of playing r6s for 5 hours straight, without any kind of problem. After he restarted his pc, the problem appeared again, and this didn't work again.
We then tried to install older nvidia drivers, using the same method, but the problem still appeared. Tried game ready versions 566.36 566.14 565.90

What I ended up thinking is: his monitor freezes if he plays against bots or normal players or alone, shoudn't be cpu. The monitor still displays that's going to sleep mode, even if doesn't recognize pc output signal, shoudn't be the monitor. I think it may be gpu software side, due to the single time it worked when we fresh installed drivers.

I'm absolutely open to suggestions. I've no idea how to solve his problem.
If you need to know any kind of information, report or anything, I'll happily provide it.
I'll probably see every reply the same day and reply after a couple hours, but I may need some days at max, as I've to ask my friend about it.
Thanks to everyone that tries to help.

His build:
mobo: msi z390 gaming plus
cpu: i5-9400f
gpu: asus tuf gtx 1660 super 6gb gddr6
ram: 16gb KHX3200C16D4/8GX

Hi, thanks for the reply. The psu is a Thermaltake Smart SE 730W.
cpu temps are always around 40 C ingame and gpu temp around 50 C. Though, utilization for both is always at 100%.
Also, the monitor is a msi Optix MAG272C.

A little update: currently trying r6s with graphic api directx 11 (default is directx 12), and it seems to be working fine (atp I don't explain myself the single time we were playing for hours after the first fresh drivers install)

Another update: after trying to play with dx11, we were able of playing for another couple hours without any kind of problem. Everything went fine. Today, after what seems to have changed was just a system restart, the problem appeared again, monitor freezes after a couple of rounds.
We've been able of workaround the monitor not showing output after it freezes: after it does freeze, if he removes the hdmi cable from his pc, waits just a couple of seconds, powers it on/restart it, waits enough to boot into windows login screen, inserts the hdmi cable, then the monitor will show output, without having to wait some 15 minutes or more; though, if he just starts it once, without before removing the hdmi cable, he'll need to remove the psu plug from the pc and wait.
Hoping anyone can tell me something about this strange problem :dizzy:
