This is a recent problem, no idea why its happeneing. But after some use of my mouse and keyboard, they become totally unresponsive. They can work for an hour, sometimes less, sometimes more, and they just, bam, stop working for no reason. There is still power being sent to them the mouse is still getting the laser, keyboard still shows numlock. restarting my computer is the only way to fix this problem. i tried plugging into different ports.

I checked device manager and it shows this:

i dont really understand why it just randomly stops working, it doesnt seem to have a pattern.

Please do not double post. Its not really going to accomplish anything.

You will need to provide some system information. without knowing your system the best I can suggest is Right click the bad USB controllers and select uninstall/remove driver files. Then install you motherboard chipset drivers.

Will uninstalling the driver files for the mouse/keyboard, then reinstalling the chipset drivers cause any issues? I'm not actually uninstalling the chipset drivers, right? Do I actually need to do a proper uninstall of the chipset drivers or will doing a install over the existing installation be okay. Or does it uninstall automatically

normally that means a dying usb controller often cause by using external usb hdds that draw to much power from the usb ports. i see you already have seen that...
try the keyboard in a different usb socket... when i say different i mean 1 that connects to a different controller... often you will have at least 2 on the motherboard.
so the next time it happens unplug the mouse and keyboard, then plug them into the other usb ports on the back if you have em..
windows should then load the driver for em both, if it fails then you know the usb is the issue. if it works then fails an hour or so later it could just be a usb bandwidth issue...
if this is the case put the keyboard back in its original socket and leave the mouse as is...
then uninstall all the usb controller drivers and reboot the machine...
windows will again load the relevant drivers and hopefully solve the problem.

not sure if it means anything but when the keyboard/mouse do disconnect, they keep their last inputs, for example if im playing a fps, and it dies, and im pressing w (forward) and shooting (m1) it keeps me walking forward and shooting.

and are you sure about the usb controller dying? what does that mean? like is the actual usb port itself faulty you're saying? or dying or whatever. because im not sure about that since the keyboard/mouse are still receiving power. the laser for the mouse still stays on.

my specs

asus p8p67 rev 3.1
i3-2100
kingston 1333 4GB
asus gtx 550 Ti

im not sure what the heck is wrong :/ i actually just tried doing the thing where i was told to uninstall the bad drivers, which i did. then i reinstalled the motherboard chipset, and the usb drivers as well. im still having the problem, though now it doesnt show any issues on device manager

ive tried all that hexit and it didnt fix it. do i need to actually uninstall the drivers first, then reboot, then install properly? all i did was reinstall the chipset drivers. also i installed the asm usb 3.0 driver but im pretty sure i didnt even need to do that

I just tried using my blue usb 3.0 ports, seems to have fixed it... but it's still a problem that I cannot use the other ports... zzz. i just want it to go back to normal

nevermind, the issue STILL persists. i guess even the blue 3.0 usb ports dont fix it. so im not sure whats wrong. is it a driver problem? i dont know, but nothing appears to be wrong in the device manager. i DID uninstall the bad drivers, and reinstalled the chipset drivers, but the problem is sitll persisting.

Bump . I'm still having the issue, its driving me INSANE. it seems to happen more when im playing a game, or just using the mouse more. and the weird thing is the keyboard isnt disconnecting over and over... the mouse actually keeps disconnecting but the keyboard still works. however, once the mouse stops working entirely, my keyboard also craps out.

try uninstalling all the usb drivers. reboot and go into bios and turn off usb keyboard support for the mouse if its there. swap the keyboard on to the original usb save and quit bios. let the dma update and windows restart. windows should then install fresh usb host controller...
to remove the usb host controllers go to system and remove them from there.

I thought I had a failing mouse ot USB too. Intermitant mouse and Touchpad failure to detect, code 43, code 10 errors. Here is what worked for me:

Just thought I would pass this on, especially since I think this is an issue that is really not necessarily dependent on the hardware type, and or the the HID drivers. It is just a guess but I am thinking that it may be a combination of AntiVirus/Malware software people run that Maybe is corrupting the drivers and or services for HID touchpads and or HID Mouse. Anyway thank you very much for the link above, quite a bit of it worked too, but only for a short while, and then I would find myself redoing the trouble shoot steps repeatedly to get the mouse to work again!

Here is what worked starting from an Unrecognized mouse and USB Device, this fixed it and stablized the USB Mouse configuration! :

Hello Everyone,
I just thought I would share what seemed to work for me with you, as I had scoured the internet for a solution, tried it all and had no luck. I have an Asus g73sw, laptop running windows 7. Uninstalling all USB drivers in the Device Manger and then clicking Check for hardware chages, worked but only for a little while. Here is what Did work:

Click:
1. Start
2. Run
3. Type: msconfig
4. On the General Tab, click Diagnostic Startup
5. then click Selective startup,, choose only Load system services and clear the check marks from Load startup Items and Use Original Boot configuration
6, Click Apply, and when it prompts to restart computer now? click yes
7 After the computer reboots, log in of course and try out your USB mouse
8. Mine worked at this point I hope this works for you too!
9. Repeat steps 1 thru 3, once there now put all the check marks back and then select Normal startup, click apply and yes to restart computer
10. Try your USB mouse again, it should be working with "refreshed" HID drivers

Hope this works for you! The only thing I can think of is that sometimes updates may break the HID USB Hubs and HID compliant device drivers, or some service is interfering with the load order. I cant tell you exactly why this works, I just know that today I gave my USB, Mouse and Synaptics Touchpad a SERIOUS gaming workout, complete with frequent boots and device removal today and I have had ZERO problems for a straight 8 hours or more!!

No re installing, mouse, driver, OS, regedit, Fixit, bis fix,,,, nothing, just the method above FINALLY resolved my "disappearing", code 10 code 43, device not recognized, driver failed to install.....mouse issues.

Msconfig is very powerful so use with caution if you dont know what it is read:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560

Anyway hope this helps you with your mouse mysteries. And thank you for your answers, it was other peoples experiences with these issues that gave me a hunch that this might work. Thank You folks!

I had the same problem where my mouse and keyboard which were connected to USB port rather than PS2 port use to disconnect frequently for 6-7 seconds and then reconnect.(for over 4 months) and i lost all hope. In my case power was coming from Power socket to UPS, which was further supplying to SMPS. I read all similar forums and utilized every trick which i can deploy like changing power settings, disabling gestures, updating drivers, changing OS, new mouse/keyboard etc...
Finally i changed SMPS, it did gave some hope for 1-2 days, But still issue not resolved. Suddenly an idea came to my mind of placing VOLTAGE STABILIZER to this whole unit....What i did: Placed Voltage Stabilizer in between UPS and Power socket. and of my surprise Issue got resolved. And it's been 2 months i haven't faced that issue and really happy to share the solution which could be applied by many users.

I am having a very similar issue within the school district I work for. So starting on Tuesday January 7th within our school district we are starting to see mice & keyboards (USB) intermittently stop working. Our users are logging off and logging back on and they will work for some time and then stop again. Some back ground information on our systems as well as things we have tried so far:

-All machines were imaged over summer with win7x64

-We keep up to date with windows updates through our wsus server (however we do not release hardware related updates, only critical & security windows updates)

-Everything was working up & until Tuesday, we have made NO group policy changes since then, last time windows updates went out to our network was Dec. 14th and they were working fine before the winter break

-It is happening on several different machines throughout our district, Dell optiplex 760, 9010, 790, as well as laptops with USB mice plugged in

Things we have tried:

-updating bios to most recent A18

-adding specific GUID for mouse, keyboard, & usb related devices for non administrative users to group policy

-un-checking setting for computer to turn off usb ports to converse power

Have you found the solution to this problem? I am working on a laptop for a customer now going on two weeks and about to call it quits.

Hi, I have a problem with my Microsoft Confort 4500 mouse, it's a little different from yours, but I been searching for an answer for some time now and this is the only tread with a similar problem I ever find. 99% of the time I start my machine the left button only works after I log off then log in back, sometimes the left button acts as the middle one, almost every time it can be fixed by just loggin off then on again, it rarely requires a reboot, but it is really annoying.
It started a few months ago after a Windows update, so I tried formating my PC, but surprisingly the problem persisted even during the Win installation. Tried updating the software also without luck.
I believe it is a HW issue, but I really like the feel of this mouse so maybe there is any way to fix it.

Hi,

I had the same problem with optiplex 9010, with two ATI video cards, I reinstalled windows always the same behavior, I could not login in windows, not keyboard and mouse responding, not lights on keyboard or mouse nothing, after different test, I took out one video card, after that everything works normally, I updated the bios put back the card inside, now the computer is working normally. thanks

update 18:52 26.11.2015

With Optiplex 9020 same behavior, losing keyboard and mouse, restart the computer, login in safe mode with netrworking, resintall, USB drivers and video drivers it works.
