I helped a friend build a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinium, AMD 54 3500+, ATI AIW
9800 Pro system last night. No major problems. One suggestion. Read the
manual a couple times before you start and then follow it as you go. The
only problem was we couldn't get any power. Nothing including case fans
would run. I unplugged all mother board connections and found which pins
on the power supply connector switched on the power supply. I shorted
them with a paper clip and the case fans started to run, so it wasn't
power supply. Reconnected everything, so I thought, and everything
powered up but the d-link lights were indicating a processor problem. I
forgot to replug the 4-pin power connector that powers the CPU. Plugged
it in and everything was fine. Still not exactly sure why it wouldn't
power up to begin with though. If you have a problem reseat everything.
No other problems. It took about 5 hours from pieces all over the place
to a stable system running Windows XP Pro.

Thanks for the tip. I am setting up the same Neo2 with 3500+. How loud is
the MCP (Northbridge) fan? I am thinking of replacing it with a heatsink.
Did you have to tweak any timing settings in the BIOS?

Just set mine up last night and this morning. No problems at all. Well, no
*hardware* problems. Getting some of my software setup correctly was a
pain. Like the Logitech (i.e. Widcomm) bluetooth drivers are a pig.

Anyway, I digress. How loud is the MCP fan? "Not very". I don't know how
to quantify that, but I can't detect it above the noise of the rest of the
system (2 Raptors, a VGA Silencer and the AMD stock fan (for now). And 3
case fans and the PSU obviously). If I replaced the MCP fan with a passive
heatsink, I am sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.... in my
system that is.

BTW, if you are still thinking of doing this, MAKE SURE the new Heatsink
will fit!!!!! My VGA Silencer goes right over the top of the MCP fan and if
the MCP heatsink was more than perhaps 1cm tall, it wouldn't fit!

Settings? Depends on the rest of your stuff. I have some pretty good
memory, so for starters, I tried 200MHz default FSB and whacked all the
timings up to their fastest settings. Works perfectly. I have tried a bit
of overclocking. Got to 2350MHz (10x235) at stock volts. Not bad. But I
can't get to 10x240 at any volts. Not good. Even 8x240 won't go, so I know
its not the CPU holding me back. I may try the 1.41 beta bios later.
That's supposed to help with higher FSB's.

He bought an x-alien case that has 6 thats right 6 case fans. It is
pretty loud. I don't think the Northbridge fan is a problem in this case
anyway. The fan that comes with the processor is pretty noisy also. I
just went with the aggressive timings (Enabled) in the bios and left it
at that for now.

hi

i got a neo2 plat. with a 3800 and i found out that you have to lower
htt mult (5x -> 4x) if you gonna have oc success.

(mine rig: 3800+ @ 2600mhz 1.6vcore 4x htt and adata pc4800 memory, have
not tested memory timings yet, waiting for a new 512 module!)
