Question Neverending BSODS when booting off HDD/USB/DVD. Mainly when trying to install Windows, but has also happened to Ubuntu (except v 14.0)

Hey everyone!

I have been trying for so long to save this motherboard, and I am 100% sure it can be saved! I think it is the culprit, giving me endless BSODs when trying to install/boot from any type of media. Usb, dvd drive, nvme, ssd. Nothing works. Whatever I do I keep getting bsod. All comps work great, so I highly suspect a software issue with the Mobo.

I need help now. Please. Thank you in advance for every suggestion.

I even have a BIOS rewriter USB thingy so I can restore a bricked Bios memory chip in case slmething bad happens. Linux terminal is available, albeit from 2014, but I can connect to wifi and download any software needed/possibly update the system.

Also command prompt in Windows is at my disposal, latest version of w11 ISO.

Cannot for the life of me get a PC to install Windows or boot into Windows. Only got it to work with Ubuntu 14.0. Not even 24.0 worked.

As I oberclocked with Asus AI Tweaker, I got farther into the install process and could avlid BSOD for longer, but they still always come back no matter what.

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE (No particular order)

=============================
- Configured BIOS into following:
1. Turned off fast boot

2. Put on AHCI mode for SATA

3. Tried with CSM off, forced
EUFI on every boot option,
forced Legacy on every boot
option

4. Turned off Secure Boot and
cleared all keys (tried
restoring them, tried not
restoring them

5. Alsonset Secure boot for
Windows and Other OS.

6. Updated to latest BIOS

7. Cleared CMOS by removing
battery for 5 min. Oddly
enough, this caused another
issue where I would get no
screen and it wouldn't post
for hours and countless
restarts and hardware
tweaking. This has been
resolved.
8. Used a memory tester from Ubuntu 24 ISO. It checked out with a PASS

9. Overclocked CPU and RAM using AI Tweaker and XMP. 39% OC it says. Im using an AIO, so temps should be fine. This caused the BSOD:s to be postponed and I could even start Windows command prompt using the Windows Repair Computer tools. So I think it has something to do with hardware stability, but I know nothimg about overclocking by my self. Only used the AI Tweaker and XMP.

=============================
- Hardware:
1. I tried reseating RAM

2. Tried reseating GOU

3. I used only one stick of my five available sticks of DDR4 RAM. Put it in one slot at a time, one by one, went through all four sticks, no dice.

4. I also tried with all ram inserted at once. No dice (4x2, 2x4). I also tried with the 1x16 module, which is the 5th one.
5. Tried another gpu. No dice.

6. Removed all GPUs. Only HDMI output on mobo. No dice.

7. Tried with only sata ssd plugged in.

8. Tried with only nvme plugged in.

9. Removed all external peripherals. Not even a keyboard. Didnt work.

=============================
- USB, mounted media, OS and installation:
1. Tried installing Windows 7 using a DVD.

2. Tried installing Windows through a Rufus USB 3.1 drive. Nope.

3. Tried installing W10 using Win Media Creation Tool on both a USB 3.1 drive and a 2.0 drive.

4. Tried installing W11 using Ventoy on a 3.1 drive.

5. Tried installing Ubuntu 24 using Ventoy. Nothing!

6. Borrowed my brothers PC to install Windows 11 on the nvme drive. Mid installation, during the first reboot, I unplugged the power cord to stop the next part of the setup and continue on my faulty PC. This got me farther and allowed it to at least boot into the setup where I got the error message that PC was shut down during install process and needed to retry.

7. I made sure to tey every single USB stick in every single USB port on the motherboard and on the case.

8. I tried installing Tiny Core Linux. Didnt work.

9. Tried to use Ultimate Boot CD. Nothing.

10. I actually managed to install and successfully run Ubuntu 14.0!!!! This means I have access to both the Ubuntu terminal AND the Windows Command prompt! So both Windows and Linux programs/commands are welcome for fault searching.

=============================
Error messages:
- Driver IRQL not less than or equal
- Something something Driver Override...
- Something something ntoskrnl.exe
- Something something kerneln security check failure or something

Any help or suggestions for tools/Windows commands are greatly appeeciated, as I can use CMD using Windows bootable USB when system is overclocked.

Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for reading and giving advice!!!

Which motherboard, psu and CPU is it?
It is a Z370-H mobo with i7 8700k, psu is 650w, brand SFC.

ONE INTERESTING NOTE!

I managed to install Tiny 11 on this computer and I can successfully boot and run it!

I found that when the pc is in OC, it crashes EXACTLY every 90 seconds. Every single time. I see it in system runyime in Windows Task manager.

It does not crash when editing values in EUFI bios.

Cpu does NOT over heat, checked it using HW monitor.

I also have no graphics card, so power is sufficient. Or at least it should be. I may try another PSU tomorrow, just to rule that out for sure. 850w psu.

Now I will play around with clock speeds.

check the cpu socket pins of the motherboard if bent or discolored

try the motherboard ouside the case on a non conducting surface
Thanks for the tip! I did this when O received the MOBO and no bent pins were found, neither any discolorations. I tried it outside the case too, and it did the same thing :/
