[SOLVED] New high budget laptop - resisting getting sucked in by Apple again...

Currently I have two Macbooks (Mini & Pro 13" from Late 2013). They are still working, but I been thinking about upgrading at least one of them to something new. One has a failing keyboard and few other problems. My main take away from both is durability for those years. However, I am not too found of macOS or changes it has been making (e.g., 64-bit only support).

New Macbook Pro 16 is about $2799 or $2449 (from Amazon Deal). I know it probably will be durable, but thinking that I would be stuck with macOS is not very appealing. Plus it seems like Apple tries to lock down their Macbooks to macOS only (without possibility of installing Windows or Linux).

What are some other options within similar price range that can offer the same or more as Macbook Pro 16.
Do I look into Dell XPS? Or something from Microsoft?

PS. Things I will be using laptop for... Not much gaming. Mostly work & photo editing.

Honesty the MacBook is probably your best bet. If Winodws and Linux support is a concern get the MBP 16 while it's still intel based, if they lock support out in an update you can decide not to update if it's more important to you. They might support bootcamp through windows for ARM as that is a thing but it's 50/50.

Windows laptops just aren't as good and the display on the MBP is leagues better.

Display was one of the main reasons why I end up buying Macbooks back in 2013.

If you are after a premium slim model, XPS series is a good one to check out, not really a lot of competition in that area for them. Maybe the Lenovo X1 https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-7th-gen-2019

Keep in mind the higher end OLED screens will add to the costs but they displays pop with them.
