[SOLVED] New m.2 NVME SSD slower than adversited.

I bought a new ssd crucial p2 500GB to upgrade by old PC a bit. My motherboard gigabyte ga-z97p-d3 doesn't support m.2 so I had to get an adapter card. Bought some cheap chinese <Mod Edit> adapter to be able to plug in the ssd. Everything works fine except my drive is quite a bit slower than what some other people seem to be getting. Could it be that plugging the adapter into PCIEX4 slot (which conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard ) slows down my SSD? Thank you.

"Bought some cheap chinese <Mod Edit> adapter" I think you answered your own question. But yes PCIe 2.0 only has .50 GB/s vs 3.0 at .985 GB/s, so yes 2.0 will be slower then 3.0

This is the one I got. It should work, it's just an adapter it shouldn't slow down SSD that much.

PCIe 2.0
Most modern PCIe SSDs are designed for PCIe 3.0 slots, but since PCIe is backwards compatible they can still be used in older systems with PCIe 2.0 slots. The resulting performance will be about half the performance if the SSD were connected to a PCIe 3.0 slot, so typical PCIe 2.0 performance figures would be:

• Sequential read speed: about 1500 MBps
• Sequential write speed: about 1400 MBps
• Random read speed: about 200,000 IOPS
• Random write speed: about 180,000 IOPS

SOLVED: It's because of PCIE 2.0. My old ass mobo only has one 3.0 and that's reserved for GPU. Yea, so I wasted a bit of money. GG no RE
