All right people, i wonder whether you can help me with a little dilemma..

I've got an old, k6-2 300 which is sorely in need of an upgrade...

I've decided on a TB 950-1GHz, with 256 mb ram, 32 mg TNT card, 20 Gb 7200 HD, but need some help choosing a motherboard and also a power supply.

So any suggestions would be very welcome

I use Asus motherboards and greatly recommend them. ABIT receives a lot of support too. Power supply? Go to http://www1.amd.com/athlon/npower/index/1,1712,,00.html. I'm using seventeam PSU and it's fine with me, variable fan speed, quiet, lots of power points.

i was recommended either an Asus K7V, or an AOPEN mb, but the choice is hard. Over here in Australia the prices aren't the cheapest

AMD recommended specs for cooling is certified fan coolers (read it from the same site on PSUs), front intake fan, and CPU outlet fan that blows are from CPU outside. This fan is located at the back of the case below in most case the PSU.

I'm looking at the abit KT7R(R for raid).

You can then strip to small 6 gig drives(identical) getting 12 gigs and up to 80% or more speed out of the HD.
As for the TNT vid card, you should consider going with the geforce series.
Good luck

I think you should go with the ASUS A7V... ata 100... lots of features... if you're price concious maybe a Gigabyte GA7ZX witch is nice and stable for a very good pricepoint. You should also consider chanching your choice of video card to a G-Force product or ATI Radeon... you'll get a lot more bang for your buck!

Have Fun!
