Question New RAM Installed on Laptop, frequent game crashes

Hello all,

I have a 2024 Razer Blade 16 (RZ09-0510x) Laptop that initially came with 2x 8gb factory RAM cards. I decided to upgrade the RAM and purchased 2x Crucial 48gb DDR5 RAM cards to install into my laptop to bring it to the maximum capacity of 96 GB, which is supported by the laptop (per Razer website)

I installed the cards and everything started fine. Download/Processing speeds are noticeably faster, no issues with simple web browsing / downloading / streaming / etc. However, when I am gaming (Helldivers 2, Baldurs Gate 3), I will have seemingly random crashes, which I never had before using the 2x 8gb RAM cards.

Things that I have noticed / tried to troubleshoot:

- adjust graphics settings on games to rule out that was the issues (I have an NVIDIA RTX 4060 graphics card, assumed that wasn’t it).

- increased the GPU and CPU settings via Razer Synapse app (nothing changed regarding crashes).

- Tried to adjust RAM speeds via BIOS (had no idea what I was doing, made no adjustments)

- The one thing I have noticed is that (and this could be totally unrelated): after 1-3 crashes / 15-45 minutes of issues, I have no more crashes during a gaming session.

I am an amateur when it comes to computer upgrades, but I figured a RAM installment within the parameters of the system would be simple enough. With that being said, here we are. Any advice or insight will be much appreciated - thank you ahead of time for your help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

It might be supported but I'm curious why anyone would need 96GB's of ram on their laptop for gaming...? 32GB would've been more than plenty for daily use cases scenarios and gaming, in general.

Got a link to the sticks of ram you purchased? Might want to see if the laptop is pending any BIOS/firmware updates. What sort of adjustments are you able to perform in terms of frequency within BIOS?
