Question New RAM Installed on Laptop, frequent game crashes

Hello all,

I have a 2024 Razer Blade 16 (RZ09-0510x) Laptop that initially came with 2x 8gb factory RAM cards. I decided to upgrade the RAM and purchased 2x Crucial 48gb DDR5 RAM cards to install into my laptop to bring it to the maximum capacity of 96 GB, which is supported by the laptop (per Razer website)

I installed the cards and everything started fine. Download/Processing speeds are noticeably faster, no issues with simple web browsing / downloading / streaming / etc. However, when I am gaming (Helldivers 2, Baldurs Gate 3), I will have seemingly random crashes, which I never had before using the 2x 8gb RAM cards.

Things that I have noticed / tried to troubleshoot:

- adjust graphics settings on games to rule out that was the issues (I have an NVIDIA RTX 4070* graphics card, assumed that wasn’t it).

- increased the GPU and CPU settings via Razer Synapse app (nothing changed regarding crashes).

- Tried to adjust RAM speeds via BIOS (had no idea what I was doing, made no adjustments)

- The one thing I have noticed is that (and this could be totally unrelated): after 1-3 crashes / 15-45 minutes of issues, I have no more crashes during a gaming session.

I am an amateur when it comes to computer upgrades, but I figured a RAM installment within the parameters of the system would be simple enough. With that being said, here we are. Any advice or insight will be much appreciated - thank you ahead of time for your help.

Edit - initially said 460 RTX, its actually 4070 RTX

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

It might be supported but I'm curious why anyone would need 96GB's of ram on their laptop for gaming...? 32GB would've been more than plenty for daily use cases scenarios and gaming, in general.

Got a link to the sticks of ram you purchased? Might want to see if the laptop is pending any BIOS/firmware updates. What sort of adjustments are you able to perform in terms of frequency within BIOS?

Moved thread from Components section to Laptop Tech Support section.

Excellent question, and two reasons:

#1- It was my first gaming laptop I had purchased in 10 years, and I wanted a big upgrade.

#2- Coinciding with #1, I knew that 96 GB was overkill for a gaming laptop. But I thought "What's the worst that could happen?" and proceeded with the purchase during a Black Friday sale. In hindsight, maybe not a well-thought-out decision, but the truth nonetheless.

Here's the link to what I purchased. I'll perform a BIOS check shortly. From my understanding, most software/performance aspects are managed through Razer's v3 synapse app. But again, a bit of a "fish out of water" with all of this.

The original RAM frequency&timing is?
The new RAM freq&timing is?

Have you ran TM5(anta777 extreme stress test)?
I, unfortunately, have no idea what the original RAM frequency and timing is.

From Task Manager / Memory check, I had a speed of 5200 M/Ts per second.

When I performed the TM5 Stress Test, I had no errors up until minute 10:30 of the test, where I had 40 errors clocked. If I am recalling correctly, I also had test 2, 3, and 5 lit up as red or orange. My screen then went black with the laptop still working, and I restarted the laptop after about 5 minutes of black screen.

One other thing that I will share is that I do not have my laptop set to "overclocking" at this time.
