Motherboards: B450 Tomahawk Max -> B550 Gaming Gen3
GPUs: 1060, 960
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600g
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16gb
Storage: 1 Evo SSD, 1 HDD

PC was working fine, but after I moved my PC to a new place, it wouldn't boot with: white underscore on display, fans spinning, peripheral lights on, VGA debug light

Tried:

  • Reseating GPU and power cables
  • Testing second GPU and the CPU's iGPU
  • Testing other PCIe slot
None of that worked, installed a new motherboard thinking that was the problem. Checked CPU for bent pins or other damage in the process, nothing.

It worked for a few boots, but now the same issue is back: white underscore, fans spinning, VGA debug light

No clue what the issue is. I could try getting a new CPU but I don't... think it's faulty.

If you're getting a display output then it's likely not a GPU issue. Do you get a BIOS/POST/boot screen at all when you turn it on?

Are you sure the boot light isn't the one which is on? I'd check your storage devices to make sure everything is connected properly.

Tested 3 different GPUs, so yeah, probably not it. I don't get any kind of boot screen, just a black screen with a solid white underscore at the top left.

I'm sure: VGA LED on both motherboards, excepting when it worked at first on the second motherboard.

I tried booting without storage devices, with both, with only one or the other; none of that worked.

I was hesitant to say it's the CPU which is also only 2 years old but damn, idk what else it could be.

( cpu wouldnt be toast it wouldnt show up at all if it was).
1. more likely a corrupt bios on the motherboard or in the move the board got damaged.)

things to try below

turn off and remove pc cable from wall outlet
turn off power supply
hold pc power button for 1 minute.
you will usually or may see a bit of power going threw the system this is normal its removing any electric from capacitors in the motherboard it wont harm the components.
wait a minute.
remove any hardrives and storage drives in system from power including sata cables.

turn on power supply and power on system. press delete key as its posting immediately regardless if its says msi on screen ( the logo can get bugged out).

if you can get into bios this way then power down system and replug up boot device and storage and go back into bios and set the drive that has windows to boot priority 1.
