Normal temp for Intel i7 870?

Hi.

I am using the original Intel cooler that came with the CPU and I get 35/40 idle and around 90º full-load!

I run several video-converters at the same time to achieve 100% load for all core's / threads.

I also read that this i7 870 CPU is OK up to 100º with full-load, but I laso have some doubts... anyone heard of CPU or motherboard problems when CPU temp achieves 90º C?

Thanks and regards,

You do NOT want to run your CPU often at 90C. 100C is the emergency shutoff point to prevent fast-acting damage.

Intel's specified safe temperature for long term usage is 72C for the i7-870. Don't exceed that.

You likely need to reseat your heatsink & reapply thermal compound.

Tkank you very much for your quick response and advice.

Do you think also that I should also buy a new heatsink (for instance a Scythe or a Noctua) or the original that came with the CPU should be enough for even for continuos high-load usage? Thanks.

If properly seated with thermal compound the stock heatsink should work fine. If it's still hot due to high ambient temps or bad airflow a cheap aftermarket heatsink may suit you better.

Thanks again Raidur, I'll follow your advices. Best regards.
