Nvidia GTX 1080, 1070 'Founders Editions' Just Reference Cards

If Nvidia is selling the reference cards for $699 and your a board partner and you running a GPU clocked at a higher speed with a more advanced cooling solution why would you sell it for $100 less? Why not charge more then the $699?

It's highly unlikely that you'll see cards with custom PCBs, customer coolers and overclocked for $100 less. That is the partners suggested retail price, but they aren't restricted from charging more.
What is likely to happen is that we'll see custom coolers on reference specced cards for that cheap, and overclocked cards will come somewhere between 599 and 699.
There's no incentive to charge more though. People who want a Founders edition are going to seek it out for the blower cooler for better SLI support.

I'm not sure how a product that doubles, or almost doubles, the performance of the previous standard card which in this case we'll call the 980 TI (Not a lot of people shelled out the money on a Titan, but a lot of people bought the 980 TI), for about the same money that card sold for at introduction, is or can be considered a rip off, but ok.

Doubles in specific VR situations only. It's at best 30% faster than a 980 ti stock and it thermal throttles after 20 minutes so you won't see all that performance.

It seems to me that Nvidia pulled one on us and the world has yet to notice. Why would any manufacturer charge the MSRP when they can charge 100 euro more? It doesn't make a lot of business sense.

With that in mind, the price/performance of these cards isn't actually as good as it might originally have seemed. It might be a while before we see those prices and would probably happen when AMD provides similar offerings at a lower price.

Based on the prices for the GTX 1080 that just popped up in the Netherlands, my fears were realized. Reference card €799 and third party €830. I won't be able to afford one until competition brings prices down by at least €150.

I see the Zotac GTX 1080 8GB reference version for $690, but very few in stock.
