Nvlddmkm crashing...

So I just bought a GTX 460 and during certain games it artifacts in evenly spaced, flickering squares all over the screen, sometimes recovering, sometimes requiring a hard reset. I narrowed it down to the driver crashing, something that has been posted about since 2007 on various forums. I was going to try some older drivers, but the only driver out for my card is 258.96, none of the previous versions support the 460. Any idea as to what's causing the problem? Temps never rise past 45 and I ran both memtest86 and a vram test. Both came back with no errors.

This is what the event looks like:

Log Name: System
Source: nvlddmkm
Date: 8/6/2010 12:50:23 AM
Event ID: 14
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: PC
Description:
The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video5
CMDre 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000001 00000001

It repeats that event 10-15 times, then the driver recovers.

EDIT: FYI: There is only one driver version currently supporting this card, so switching to a different version is not an option :(

Solution
on second thought maybe those drivers on the nvidia site are the same ones, the only difference is the nvidia are 258 and the other ones are 158.....Hmmmmmmm.....my 465 shipped with 197.75 drivers and they were terrible....... but you could try the official 285's anyway,it wouldn't hurt........also google......nvlddmkm.....you will find lots of info and solutions for this problem

The official nvidia drivers from the nvidia site are really nice and they support the 460 try those,if you are using the drivers that came with card drop those drivers, they are buggy as hell, the ones on the nvidia site are 258.96 WHQL,those should do the trick........I just got an ASUS GTX 465 1 gig for $212.00 and the drivers that it shipped with are garbage, but the drivers posted on the nvidia site work very well............

nWell I get the exact same error while playing Battlefield 3 on a GTX 560 Ti (1GB RAM) and driver version is 285.62, released only a few days ago.
n
nMaybe teaser's solution didn't work after all, but tdk08 didn't have the time to come back and report?

I actually just ended up RMAing the card :(

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have the same error in the Event Viewer whenever my PC exhibits certain symptoms (mouse stuttering and hanging, total deadlock freezing requiring hard reset, rarely some artifacts and disconnecting of monitors) during idle time, normal usage and gaming.

I was wondering, tdk08, if RMAing your graphics card solved your problems?
