So I have my Gateway NE56R with its fresh (an SSD AT&T abandoned because of lost encrypted data) SSD. This laptop now, instead of an HDD, has an SSD. So I would expect the ticking noise during startup to go away, but no. Here's what happens:

It ticks for approx 15-30 seconds on a black screen, then the (bios) logo shows up and the system begins booting. Why does it do this, it has an SSD in it?

Solution
The boot priority is set for the optical drive 1st. It's checking the optical drive for bootable media. Finding nothing, it goes to the SSD and boots to windows.
This gateway laptop is from 2012 so warranty is highly unlikely (plus if anything it would be voided already anyway)

The ticking before the logo shows up has been significantly reduced since the SSD was installed. To just a few seconds, which could reduce it down to the CD/DVD Drive. Problem is, when I try to listen for the noise it seems to be coming from the center-ish of the device, not the DVD drive.

Update: The ticking is aligned perfectly with the 'disc/disk' activity light
Update 2: After putting the DVD drive at the bottom of the boot priority, the time taken by the spinning is significantly reduced. So it could very well be the DVD drive bottlenecking the boot speed.
Update 3: The dvd drive initialises really quick, and its not whats making the clicking
