an unusual question, maybe a stupid one. but realizing the real uses of your PC might cut costs in the "madness" of upgrading.

for me, word processing, making presentations with powerpoint, reviewing powerpoint presentations done by other people, web serfing, DVD, DivX, MP3s, and a bit of gaming. it means that a tbird 1GHz will do. if i just exclude DivX movies, then a p2-350 will do.

"Is Celeron good?"
"No. Celeron is bad."
LOL

I just use my for games... and just running AMD 550 it still runs everything i need it to run for now.

Cheers

P3 is good enough for me to word process, surf web, and play some of the 'older' games such as UT and CS at reasonable speed.

If all else fails, Go further :)

When you buy a comp with high end stuff (back in January 2002), you tend to wanna have a purpose to use it for anything.
I use my comp for almost anything, when the desire comes. I usually play games, surf the web and study PC stuff, and come here for hours. I can DL movies if I wanna watch, but I am limited to 5GB by my DSL ISP.

WARCRAFT III MADNESS!!! hehehe..used to play CS but I sucked there a bit..average player...at least in WC3 it's fun and involves some or more thinking...hehe...Some ppl have nice PCs but they usually only play games on them and they buy a GF4 TI 4600 and a P4 2.5 even if an Athlon XP 1800+ and Radeon 8500 will do...I play all my games with all enhancements enabled and still I do not lag even in multiplayer games...I plan to use Maya or nay 3D program soon, if I stop being a lazy arse! hehe

(u got mail) i got mail, i got mail, i got mail ... yeeeaaayy!

I have a hard time understanding the purpose of Cure for Cancer style programs if so far I haven't heard of any recent cancer found and cured.

I use my PC to heat my room and for powering fans.

Sometimes a little websurfing and gaming.

I overclock my Tbird 1.0 to 1.5 ghz so I can type faster.

I have so many cookies I now have a FAT problem!

I've found ways to incorporate feeding, sex, and alcohol on in there too. My problem is I keep falling asleep then off the chair. That's a bad way to wake up, in mid flight or worse yet while landing. Wait, maybe a seatbelt computer chair mod...

Sometims I have a staring contest with my computer. Other times I'm killing many suckas in SOF2!!! Oh and of course porn...

 Is it a bad if your memory module looks like a piece of fried bacon?.

Porn is a must, and I´m with you on that staring contest. I also like casual surfing and online games, MOHAA, JK2, and the like...

We're working on a cure for solid tumor cancers, Eden. The problem is not in curing the cancer (that can easily be done), the problem is in not killing you in the process. Anyway, you're young enough that you might be able to benefit from some of the more recent ideas for therapy some day. Just be patient.

Ok so they help in that, but still my point isn't that I am against it, no way I am not, in fact I could endorse, if only there were some examples of that actually helping. What's worse is when you think that millions around earth could be contributing, yet there hasn't been much improvement in finding cures and treatments in the last years. (it seems distributed computing has been around since more than 10 years ago?)
