Actually the Wild West is a good analogy because today the criminal element is vastly out numbering the available law enforcement, because of the economy, and budget cut after budget cut weakening the established law enforcement needs.

Limiting their ability to hire new officers while the criminal population explodes in growth, with more and more violent crimes taking place every day, not protecting yourself and your family is stupid, you have at least that much direct responsibility.

This is our home and we could care less that you don't give a damn, nothing has changed on that front anyway has it!

The only thing i wanted to say is: "i'm not concerned because i live far away from U.S; so my opinion is not very important."

(I'm never sure to properly express what I mean.)

Conditions the way they are in the US presently and getting worse everyday just be Thankful you don't live here. :)

My question is, why are we attacking those who choose to defend themselves, when weve failed to stop the criminal first?
As Ry pointed out, the resources or timing isnt always there.
If we are having trouble protecting the law abiding, cant get the bad guys off the streets, where is the logic to attack the good guys wanting protection, when this is one way it can be had.
The violence hasnt always been so high, and people carried guns back in the day.
Whats changed is the inability to handle the criminal, so some think its OK to go after those who choose self protection instead of going after the criminal with tougher laws.
I like the 3 strikes your out, and use of a deadly weapon laws.
Because I do, I am refered to as a racist, yet racial opinions only go one way here, which is normal here, as everything with tradition and common sense is attacked.

Hmm... on this question, i think this is not a gun problem, but a justice problem.
Have to admit that your justice works on a very particular way.

@JAYDEEJOHN

One additional new problem is prison over crowding and the expense just to house the criminals, tougher laws equals more prison occupancy and that's becoming a major expense and problem as well.

The prisoners have to be treated fairly fed and clothed, and yes they can be forced to work for the state or government, but they have to be supervised as well.

Crime is getting too common and too convenient for the criminal, some would rather stay in prison than get out, because in prison they know what's required, as they weren't too good at living outside of prison in the first place.

All the prison education programs paid for by the public and prison reform all cost money, crime is too enticing today because the punishment is a vacation from life.

Prison life itself just makes better criminals, smarter, and more capable to do their dirty work, and if they get caught no big deal, they just go back home.

How about 3 strikes something like this;
Rape first offense castration.
Rape second offense penectomy.
Rape third offense? Death!

That would pretty much stop rape period, no one would even want to take the chance for the first offense sentence!

After the first and second offense, death would probably be welcomed anyway.

Anyhoo, graphic I know but We need tougher penalties, so prison doesn't look like a holiday free government ride.

Again, they attack Arpaio for giving little incentive to be in jail, and its the same crowd.
They tear down anything that was good, finding only the bad in it, and denying the good.
The new ways arent working, some things cant even be addressed because of political correctness, such as the vast majority of gun crime comes from black american communities, where only 13% of the population lives, and they are not using rifles, nor guns with clips too large etc etc.
So, they attack the law abiding to be more strict, and have lessened the penalty for the criminal.

This isnt a lead by example scenario here, and Im not sure what these attempts are trying to achieve.
Go after the problem first, and it wasnt gun ownership until whackos started going into white neighborhoods, so shame on those who waited to make this an issue now.
Weve known way before most whack attacks that in certain places in our society, by certain people that gun crime has escalted much much more than the whack attacks, and yet, nothing is being said at all here.
The MSM is so disingenuous about all this, the anti gun lobby as well.
There simply arent enough whacks to overcome the losses we have here each day in the inner cities, and never will be.
So, they make a law about guns that arent used in the inner city, making requirements people from the inner city wont and dont obey or use, they use tragedies of things that are but a small % of the oevrall situation, wont even address the inner city problem at all, I say shame on them for this, they lack the moral rectitude to do what is really needed, to go where the real problem lies, to stop whats really going on, and only because of their insistence of being separate but equal, instead of all being equal, and wont step on toes.
It reminds me of the good Muslim not stepping up against the terrorist Muslim, and is why we see such similar thoughts, as if just sort of wanting to without direct action, meaning people knocking on doors, creating a real shared climate, not a separated one, is the way itll get done.
If youre afraid some ugly form will rear its head by doing the things that are needed, then back out graciously, and let those who can overcome these things, know of these things work on these things.
We dont set law by opinion, as everybody has one.

Can we keep teh responses short, irreverent, and preferably comical in nature.

These larges swathes of highly emotive text are making me anxious.

How bout we switch topic back to food again?

Take your minds off guns for a while ... you may nurse a revolver while contemplating what to eat if it helps.

Food it is:

Now the most important thing when dealing with the flour for the Brownies is to sift the flour before adding it to the mixer.

That used to be the point when the pecans were added to the mix, but I like to add the pecans from the very beginning and mix them into the batter.

Start with 1 cup of light brown sugar firmly packed, and 1 cup of granulated sugar, add both to the mixer with the pecans, (either one cup of chopped pecans, or one cup of chopped walnuts whichever you prefer).

Begin mixing on slow speed, add 3 eggs, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, let the mixer be slowly mixing these ingredients.

While this mixing is going on preheat the oven to 350 degrees, melt 10 tablespoons of margarine in a sauce pan on lowest heat, and pre grease with Crisco a 9 x 12 metal baking pan, (lightly grease even if it is a non stick pan).

When the margarine is all melted remove from the heat and stir in 2/3rds cup of cocoa, stir until blended and smooth, then pour into the mixer and continue mixing until smooth and creamy.

Then slowly add 3/4ths cup of sifted self rising flour running the mixer on its slowest speed, continue slow mixing until fully blended.

Pour mixture into the greased cooking pan, smooth and level the mixture in the pan and pop it in the oven for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes at 350 degrees take out immediately and set aside to cool, allow to cool completely before cutting into squares, yields about 2 dozen brownies.

Enjoy some of the best Brownies you'll ever eat!

This is not a joke. Ry

My boss Doug has a wonderful American wife who makes the world's best brownies.

Such a nice guy ... he brings heaps of them into work for us.

I am probably going to die from eating those little chocolate squares ... seriously ... I had 7 or so one day.

Brownies and highly addictive when your writing procedures and your on a roll ... with a nice flat white on the side.

When Doug leaves for his next assignment I am going to have to go with him ... simple as that.

Dunno what I am going to tell the wife ...

:)

If we expand background checks, HIPAA laws will have to change. The whole reason background checks fail on guns is because HIPAA blocks that information... the same clause that allows girls 15 and older to get birth control is the same one that prevents mental health background checks.

I want a bigger garage and a bigger shed.. maybe a polebarn. Get some metal working equipment and wood working equipment in there.. making grills like that would be a good hobby.
