I was buying some food for the dogs at Coles last night and thought of an innovative 1st world solution to the 3rd world problems that are plaguing us ... sadly I saw a StarTrek poster and promply forgot but then remembered part of my crazy plan today ... after my meds cut in for my sore hip.

It started with the idea of building a decent (4 Inch) gas cannon (propane) and using the 2Kg dog rolls cut in half (2 rounds per roll each being a 1 kg round as such).

After working out the muzzle velocity (275 ms)and resultant Force (F=MA) generated I realised that I had designed something to take down rogue eliphants.

So essentially I decided not to build it unless we start getting terrorist eliphants at some future date.

So ... keep your ears open ... let me know then I'll be needed.

Alternatively it could be used to feed hungry lions from a safe distance ... or polar bears?

I am so clever ... combined food and guns in the one post.

I win !!!

:)

Gun related deaths dropped dramatically after the changes in legislation ... and stayed down.

While gun ownership may have increased the type of weapons owned are significantly less dangerous ... hardly any semi autos, small magazines, low power weapons, tight restriction on big bore rifles and virtually no handguns except the glocks owned by the cops.

The statistics prove it beyond a doubt.

The major issue presented to us know is getting the remaining illegal weapons, and severely punishing those who illegally try to import them.

Making the fines and gaol time the same as for illicil drugs should do the trick.

In America, felons aren't allowed to own firearms. hint hint 😉

Oh my dear Reynod.. you must read what you linky:

A 2010 study on the effects of the firearm buybacks by Wang-Sheng Lee and Sandy Suardi of Melbourne University's Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research studied the data and concluded, "Despite the fact that several researchers using the same data have examined the impact of the NFA on firearm deaths, a consensus does not appear to have been reached. In this paper, we re-analyze the same data on firearm deaths used in previous research, using tests for unknown structural breaks as a means to identifying impacts of the NFA. The results of these tests suggest that the NFA did not have any large effects on reducing firearm homicide or suicide rates.

Another link addressed a decline in firearm suicides in '97 and '98 but failed to mention the other program that year to prevent suicides due to the 10% increase in the years leading up to it. Using the decreased numbers in 97 and 98, they could claim there was a significant drop in gun related suicides though there was a program in place to prevent suicide in those years because of the rise in suicides. Hmm.. Maybe less gun control is needed and more suicide prevention is the answer?

Anyone else catch this article from the front page?

Here's a Gun Printed with a Consumer-level 3D Printer. By no means pocket friendly, but still an amazing proof or concept.

I thinks its great how this technology has progressed in such a (seemingly) short time. Just a matter of years before relatively affordable consumer level 3D printers are refined enough to find themselves into the everyday hobbyist's garage or workshop. Providing there isn't legislation to prevent the sale of such printers or 3D machining tools, of course.

It is perfectly legal in America for an individual to manufacture their own firearms for their own personal use. It only becomes illegal if they make them for sale or trade, especially across State line.

Firearms are extremely simple devices. A Glock has what, 35 pieces to it for a semi auto? The 3D one had what, 16 pieces with one being a block of metal?

I used to make rubberband guns when I was a kid. :)

Look maw, no guns

I respect your opinion on this and I still have my opinions about guns.I hate them period. This dam century we are living in is to much stress and to much drugs are children are using for any excuse to take especially the shrinks who are giving them. One reason we are so screwed up now.

For anyone was hasn't seen it (I think Rey posted the first part) Check out the daily show's 3 part interview with Aussie politicians vs American politicians on gun control.

Why?
Do they hunt deer?
Have polar bears, grizzlys to contend with?
Elk to hunt?
I know they have sheep, tho none native, like big horn.
Antelope?
How about big cats?
Guess you dont really need a gun for a spider or snake.

Or, they should store those guns in the country when the millions from the cities go hunting?
Point here is, those who have no use simply have no use, and isnt relevant to those who do.

A gun would have been handy in London, and eventually was by the way.
If your entire society didnt ever have guns, as some arrived from Oz during WW2 without ever shooting a gun.
Not even enough for training?

Im in no way saying one is better than the other, tho some are, with no use for them, so how would they know?
And, little if any proposed legislation would effect the cities anyways, and is the main complaint anyhow, as well as the main misuse of guns, and deaths, and fear, and maiming etc.
Its like some who cant identify terrorism rey, trust me, and using a foreign country to back up their argument doesnt fit

So killing teens for misdemeanors is considered a good use of guns?

Also Rey correct me if Im wrong but dont you guys still own guns? Its not like the UK where personal gun ownership is not allowed.

^ Yep. I live 70 miles south of this. Atlanta. The jewel of the south. NSFW language ( surprise ).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exWQIvjQ46c

There are several videos of this guy taking no crap but he was eventually let go due to lack of budget. All he was doing was protecting his business from drug dealers. Yes he carries a Glock as well as the Taser and has to pull it in several of the videos. He made the videos in case he was ever killed so there would be a record of it.

Oh and by the way that's not the ghetto. That video is just downtown Atlanta.

And mingo, since you dont want to carry, hopefully nothing extremely bad will ever happen if it happens again.
I understand that and respect that, but even army personnel cant stop a man with knives.
Point is, if they wish to get more than money, its nice to be carrying.

I personally have stopped a mugging with a firearm when a "gentleman" with a large knife tried to mug 2 friends of mine when we were leaving another friends house. I just happened to have a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun in my truck and the "gentleman" was much nicer when I got out of my truck and pointed it at his head. He dropped the knife and ran as fast as he could.

Another good friend was walking across the street to a gas station to get some beer one Friday night. The store was only a few hundred feet from his apartment and I was on the porch watching him. Around 10-12 "gentlemen" confronted my friend on the way back and demanded his beer and money. He calmly dropped the beer and pulled his Ruger P89 and pointed it at the ground while asking the "gentlemen" who wanted to die first. Needless to say they were gone before I could run down the steps with my Glock to back him up.

You guys would all pass a background check, every single person from your anecdotal stories would pass a background check.

No one in your stories needed a 30 round clip. So whats wrong with some common sense gun laws? Thats why I asked about Australia and gun ownership, they can still carry a multitude of guns.

My link shows they may have more than when it first went down.
And to be fair, they dont have a right to them, only are privileged to have them.
They dont have our history of having such use for them as well, even today, the % and even available animals arent even close for h8unting.
Bad example, but the ones who want them still get them, and thats those who do so legally.
The PM said it was bad they had to make the good to suffer to pass it, yet here we are today with as many or more.

Whats solved?
If a crazy wanted to, he could literally blast his way for time to reload clip upon clip, take diffent angles, approaches etc, then whats next, one bullet?
The shocker is whats interesting here.
Australias never had the gun vilolence we have had here, ever, period.
Every day we see someone shooting someone if you watch the news from a large city.
We arent desensitized from this, as guns sales has risen, not declined.

What we are is, tired of all this violence, and some carrying in fear as well as sensibility.
And yes, every once in awhile, someone crazy does horrible things with guns, but it isnt the ongoing hurt we feel each day from the "other" shootings, which dont require 30 rounds, which dont require Bayonets or any of the other proposed crap our lookin for a vote as we supposedly look out for you pols make hay with this.
They simply attack the law abiding by several magnitudes

You sure your living in the US or is it Tanzania ??

What a sh!thole of a place to live if you have to behave like that.

What you should be asking is how did your country get like that and how can you fix it so that it is a more decent place to live.

I couldn't live in a place like that.

Strangely Canada is right next to you and clearly a safer place to live.

Why is that?

I live in Georgia. Oddly enough many parts are indistinguishable from Tanzania. Those parts are where the vast majority of the violent crime is including both incidents I listed above. I'll leave it up to you to check those demographics further.

Just a few weeks ago an acquaintance, not really a friend but we dated girls who were best friends just after high school, and his brother in law were brutally executed by 4 teenage gang members after breaking down on the way to the store for cigarettes. They were stupid enough to accept a ride home from said gang members and were shot in the head or their trouble.

The convenience store they broke down by is less than 2 miles from my house. The house they were executed at was less than 4 miles from my house. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood. My neighbor on one side is a firefighter and his wife is a teacher. My neighbor on the other side is a dentist. The guy across the street owns an auto parts store. Pretty much the whole county I live in is the same story. But the county Macon is in is about 70% ghetto.

Thankfully they caught the scum who did the killing. Here is an article on it. My friend was Russ Jacobs.

Notice how the female apparently thinks it's fun to be arrested for murder. Well these animals are going to find out the hard way that they are just old enough to be tried as adults and we are not shy about handing out the death penalty here for senseless cold blooded crap like this.

For almost 11 years I studied martial arts. I have black belts from 2 different schools. I have never been in a street fight. I have had a firearm and ammunition in my room since my Dad decided I was responsible enough at age 12. I have never had to shoot anyone. But as long as there are animals in the world who will execute you for a TV and computer I will be damned if I or my family will be victims.
