So I was wondering that is there any way to overclock cpu in my laptop. It has good ssd, 8 gb of ram and not bad graphics card. But there's only one thing that make this laptop slow and thats CPU. I tried to get into bios but there was nothing to set. Same with programs like Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I installed new os Manjaro but it didn't give me enough performance that i wanted. So I came here to ask you some questions:

  • Is it possible to change a cpu in that laptop
  • Is there any way to overclock that cpu ( I only overclocked amd platforms )

HP specs ( exactly HP-15-r222nw ):
  • 2x4 gb 1333mhz
  • intel pentium n3540
  • nvidia 820M
  • some 256 ssd drive

It has good cooling and temperatures at load.

I use it only for fun but in future I planned to make it on this home server or a minecraft server with mods to play with friends :)

Okay, but how about replacing cpu to something better can I even do that? I saw some videos how they changed their cpu's.

If that isn't possible What can I do to get the best performance on my cpu?

No, you can't change the CPU. It is a BGA1170 socket, soldered directly to the motherboard.

"best performance"?
What do you use this for?
As a 'home server', it would suffice. It just has to serve up movies and audio, right?

I mean it isn't good for minecraft server. It can't handle up 5 players with 12 render distance and 60 mods. At this situation it's better for me to keep that server on my overclocked FX-8300 but the problem is my pc isn't that quiet to sleep near that and also it's power-hungry.

Right.
That won't suffice as a minecraft server.

There's pretty much nothing you can do to it to increase performance. It is what it is.

The best use case I can see for a "laptop" of that ilk would be either casual use on a Linux-flavor load or perhaps use as a file server attached to external storage. IMO it would be more trouble than it's worth in the latter use due to having to open the lid or leave it set open somewhere on all the time.

For the minecraft server would likely look into a cheap office refurb.

It's already on Linux but I didn't notice such a big performance between Windows 10 and Manjaro not taking into account boot speed and ram usage.

Should I try run this on Windows XP or 7? Is there any sense to go lower with windows os?

No.
For XP, unless you install 64bit XP, you'll lose out on most of the 8GB RAM. And 64bit XP is not nearly as widely supported as the 32bit.

Win 7 wouldn't run any faster than Win 10 does. And unless that came with Win 7 originally, unlikely there are Win 7 drives for it. Especially the touchpad and video.

And of course, the lack of security updates for those old OS's.

Sorry, but it is what it is. A minimally powered laptop, suitable for web browsing and movies.
